Robert, just a thought, if you have 'priceless' data on the disk, then in
the meantime, don't use your 40G HDD at all, until you've replaced it with
the new and set-up your system. That way, you could re-introduce it as the
D: and attempt to recover the data before you dissect - or bin - it <g>
