I have Windows Me. There was an error: the system froze
and the hard drive made a repetitive noise for about 1
minute; afterwards the shutdown could be done. Upon
restart, the "ScanDisk Thorough" started. After a few
hours the system froze. I tried again with no success. For
now, I disabled "ScanDisk" at start-up with "msgonfig",
and the system seems fine.

- What can I do to correct this situation?
- Is the hard drive at fault, and have bad sectors, which
cannot be repaired?
