I can no longer save pictures from web pages to "My
Pictures", which I formerly could with no trouble. Now
when I right click on picture, click 'Save Picture As",
and select *.bmp as my file choice, and attempt to save it
into "My Pictures"folder, it is saved as "File". Can't
preview it, and it won't open with any other program
selection. Will appreciate any suggestions.

This is an Internet Explorer bug. To recover the bitmaps, you would need to go to Tools, View tab, Under Advanced settings,
uncheck, "Hide file extensions for known file types." Right click each file, choose Rename (major PITA), and add the .bmp
extension. Next if you do not have the latest Internet explorer, download it from Windows Update. If you do have it, you can
repair it from the Add/Remove programs.

Do you save as .BMP for any reason? Most webpage pictures are sent as
type .JPG or .GIF. A .BMP will take up to 10 times as much space as a
JPG or GIF if you let IE convert to BMP.
If you do this for later viewing, then you may find the viewer IrfanView
useful. It is at http://www.irfanview.com/
