Unable to delete any file
I am unable to delete anything. I get an error
message "Cannot delete (Filename): Access is denied. The
source file may be in use." This happens when I am trying
to delete regular files to programs to things already in
my recycle bin. Anyone know of a fix?

system tray application
Hi
I am building a system tray application.i.e. one which
will be launched on startup. I know I can accomplish this
by making appropriate entries in registry. But how can I
handle various events (such as system shutdown) to this
application? Or even, when we right click on the
applications in system tray, a popup menu appears. How the
commands in this popup menu are conveyed to the
application? Is there any standard function or events
which i have to capture?

Win ME error message
The low life product known as win me keeps giving me a
blue screen error 0E : 018F : BFF8E64B. I find that I get
this message mostly when online in my Quicken program. I
have checked out the vid card as a possible Matrox card
error, but that is not what I have on my system (G-Force).

Partition external hard drive
Just installed new USB 2.0 ports and 120 GB WD external hard drive
(preformatted FAT32).
How do I turn this into four partitions? Do I use Fdisk, BootItNG,
Maxtor Maxblast? (No software comes with the Western Digital drive.)
Want 3 x 32 GB partitions for backups plus 1 x 16 GB primary (for
possible future W2K).
I have a well-behaved Me system that I am trying not to mess up. 60 GB
internal drive.

I no longer have the Find Files & Folders option in the
Search section of the Start Menu. What is the name of the
file needed and where is it located. How do I get it back

Security Update 823559 wont install
"update progress" always completes but then "install
progress" will only briefly show 1 bar and then "X No
Updates Were Installed". I was told a patch would be
available on the 10th of this month to fix this problem.

Help with JPEG attachments
everytime I receive an attachment with a jpg or jpeg
attchment it is grayed out so I can`t save it or open it.

Is there a way to stop Program checking for update
Hello All:
I have been running on win ME, Int. Explorer vs. 6.01 sp - a licensed
version of a Shareware Indexing (file management for Hard drive and
removeable media) Program. Within past week when Program is opened - a
small screen flashes saying checking for update. Program then shuts down
and my monitor goes black with error message: Vwin32(05)T 000012DO Error OE:
0028: CO2AB4A8. I press any key and get back into windows. But Program
will not run. Authors of Program will not respond - though their online
Registration Agent still is willing to accept licensing money. But, not
answer why this is happening. If I discontinue cable connection - Program
runs fine. Reinstallation clearly shows registered to me. Everything
else on system just fine. Problem only with this paid for Program -which I
suspect Author wishes would go away - so they can offer an updated/changed
version. .
Is there a way to disable the auto checking feature that occurs after
attempt is made to open program/ and I am on line (always on - cable
connection).

Network Error
I followed a Microsoft help file that told me to choose
another registry file so I could start using system restor
again. Now when I boot I get several error messages. I
am going to work on them one at a time. I think I can
take care of the Norton error message by reinstalling.
The one that I think I need so I can get back on the
internet is the following:

The Support Tuner has encountered a network error. Check
the state of the network and try again.
I already looked in the microsoft help files and can't
find this one.

Upgrading from ME to XP
Can anybody tell me whether or not Microsoft Works will
upgrade to Office XP. I want to upgrade this but I also
want to know whether or not I will get Excel, PowerPoint,
Access and so forth. Those are the programs that I want,
however Microsoft Works doesn't have them so I want to

Falling leaves
A couple of years ago Windowsupdate.com offered Falling Leaves and Science
Fiction themes which I installed. Something has changed and now when I try
the screensavers from those themes I get
couldn't find any scene definitions in location " . " -reinstall?
as an error message. If I sample the screen saver from Themes setup it
works. If I run it from its directory under Program
Files\Plus!\Themes\FALLINGL it works. Same goes for Science Fiction. I've
tried this on 98SE and Me with the same results. There is a matching .SCN
file I even copied to the Windows directory to accompany the screensaver.

Mmsystem.dll
Need additional help with Mmsystem.dll error. I have
made the changes in the "System.ini" file, by adding in a
line which states drivers=mmsystem.dll. This was from the
Microsoft knowledge base article - 138835. This did
elimate the error message,and gave me sound back, but now
I have no mouse response. An error message now appears
which shows the color is set to 256 and change to 16 bit.
The computer I am trying repair is a HP 7905 running
Windows ME.
Any help with this would be greatly appreaciated.

Windows XP
Can I install XP Home edition or XP Pro onto a bare hard-
drive that has no operating system on it at all? I can't
seem to install over the following: Have Windows 95 OEM
and the Windows 98 Upgrade, And then Windows ME Upgrade. I
can't install. Too many error messages when trying to
install XP. Also messages about it leaving out files and
or not being able to find files come up when trying to
load XP. I try retry loading files, that does not work; So
I select skip file; Which leads me to skiping a whole lot
of files because it won't or can't load them from the
disc. It will load to 100% even though I had to skip files
to get it unto 100% But then it won't finalize the
installation. It would seem I need to format and install
on a clean hard-drive. But I was told I have to have a
previous windows operating system on my hard drive before

Wscript has caused error
Every time I turn on the computer I get a message saying
"Wscript has caused error in ADVAPI32.DLL. Wscript will

ME updates screwed my computer
I decided to install updates to ME which I have never done
before. The last update installed was s system restore
update. After that install I restarted my computer and
everything had changed. All of my dialog boxes are now
very small, also my mouse and all fonts. I tried all kind
of changes in display appearances but nothing is changing
the box or mouse size. It also changed all my font types
everywhere on my computer, so then I tried system restore
and the only restore point that is available is what I did
today and the system restore is unsuccessful. Any info

Lost my Documents Folders When Upgrading From ME To XP
I just upgraded my Windows ME to XP Home Edition. When it
finished all the folders under MY DOCUMENTS were missing.
I called Microsoft and they didn't really help me. They
said to uninstall XP and go back to ME edition and they
should be there. Well, they weren't..
Can anyone help me get them back. I have several thousand
photos that are lost at present that were in MY Pictures
folder. I kept meaning to back them up, but didn't.
I am NEW to your Forum, so if this question has been asked
before, don't come down on me too hard.

After windows me starts up it wont go past the wallpaper,
