Why do I receive the error "This operation has been
cancelled due to restrictions in effect on the computer.
Please contact your system administrator" when I select
Internet Options from the tools menu in Internet Explorer
from my home PC?

If you have Spybot installed and have activated the " Lock IE control
panel " on the Immunize page you will get this message when attempting
to open Internet Options.

Ok ... I had Spybot installed, and don't have this lock
set. I just tried running Sidekick 98 and got a Kernel32
crash and the message warning on restrictions ... see your
administrator ...

Ideas?

Settings within Sidekick to set up users ? That's only a guess as
Sidekick is no longer supported by Starfish and they offer no info on it.

What I did to restore things ... was to reinstall a free version I had on my
hard drive of Sidekick 98 ... new path ...deleted the old icon on the quick
launch bar and everything is back to normal ... touch wood.

I think (dunno!) that there is more to this message than meets the eye as
its generic as if there is now an administrator on the WinME machine that
there was not before ... we will see if it crops up again.

I did btw search within the registry if there were any restrictions on
sidekick.exe for any reason and there were not any to be found.

Weird ...

Thanks for your reply ... they did have a free download of Sidekick 98 on
their site ... its gone. ftp there is gone ...
