I tried to run System file checker from a command prompt but it told me no
such command. I'm assuming this will not work with ME. Is there another way
to check and restore my system files ? Thanks. Dave

Me doesn't have a native System File Checker......it has System File
Protection. With regard to the restoration of any system files, they (for
the most part) can be extracted from your .cab files. See below:

Extracting .cab files

KB 129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files"
KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me"
KB 259687 - "Unable to Extract Files Using the System Configuration Utility"
KB 267465 - "Unable to Extract Cabinet Files to Certain Locations"

If on your HD, they will be located in C:\Windows\Options\Cabs\Install, if
these are not on your HD you will need the original installation disk.

Post back if you need further assistance.
Heirloom, old and got mine

if you have to go back program you can go back to the last
day that it was working properly and your computer should
go back to normal. if not you need to call your the
company where you bought your computer and explain to them
your problem if still under warranty. if not it is
cheaper to by a dell with all new hardware and software.
hope this helps.

Windows Me does not use SFC. It has other automatic protection
mechanisms built in such as System File Protection and System Restore.

What specific problems or issues were you hoping to resolve by using
SFC? There is probably another way of resolving these issues in
Windows Me.

Good luck

Such errors are often caused by problems with the RAM - download DocMemory
from www.simmtester.com and create the boot disk. Use this to boot the PC,
and run the test overnight to check the RAM thoroughly.
See what it reports.
