I have run a virus check and find 4 files in the restore
directory that indicated they may be "unwanted programs"
they appear to be spyware but when I try to delete,
quarantine, it am told the disk is write protected.

Does any anyone know if there is a way to remove these
file?

Is there anyway to "unprotect" the Restore directory.

There's no need to worry about viruses in the _Restore archive - they are
perfectly safe there and can cause no harm to your PC, unless you're
unfortunate enough to use System Restore to go back to a time during which
you were infected.

Having said that - look here
