"Explorer has caused an error in <unknown>. Explorer will now close".
I recently installed a wireless adapter, namely NetGear
WG311, and a message pops up."Explorer has caused an
error in <unknown>. Explorer will now close" .
The same wording I receive with Rundll32.dll. That
is, "Rundll32.dll has caused an error in <unknown>" .
How do I resolve this?
Thanks Tag: Recovering ME after HDD format Tag: 212433
System backup
I have purchased a Maxtor 80 G hard drive to back up my system every night.
I am using Windows XP Backup utility. My backup stops at 4 G and the message
says I only have 4G of available space.
What is going on?

How to restore "Safely Add/Remove Hardware" icon?
I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me how to restore the
system tray icon to safely add/remove hardware? We have a WinME laptop

information on how to get it back.
Thank you in advance.

Can of Worms with shutdown and start up
Originally when performing shutdown the computer would
hang after all the icons and programs showed a normal
shutdown. In order to turn off the machine I would press
and hold the start button.
Upon starting I receive the new hardware wizard stating
that new hardware was found but not naming the device.
(No new installation took place) I would press next on the
wizard for it to search for software for the "new"
hardware. The wizard then states it was unable to locate
software. In order to proceed I would choose finish at
which time an error message about the SUReg key comes on.
Followed by a Kernel32.dll message when I clear the first
error message. The computer will continue to boot but I
do not have the sound device or modem. Any ideas on what
is going on and how to fix? (I hope it isn't a bad hard
drive) Tag: Recovering ME after HDD format Tag: 212414

System Restore
I just upgraded to a larger hard drive and copied my old
drive to my new. I received an error message when I booted
with the new hard drive that stmgr was causing a conflict.
I discovered that stmgr is System Restore. I had to
disable system restore in msconfig to eliminate the error.
Of course, system restore no longer works. I reloaded my
WindowsMe and it did not fix the problem. My questions is:
How do I remove the list of installed updates in Windows
Update because mine is no longer current? I can then
download the update to Windows Restore and hopefully fix
the problem. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Failed Security Update #823559
Up until now, I have had no problem obtaining and
installing regular automatic Windows Me Security
Updates.......until now. I am unable to install #829355. I
have tried 30+ times to do this to no avail. I have
attempted installations both automatically and manually.
Each time I receive a notice informing me that the
installation failed and to try again. I continue to
receive a reminder on the bottom of my desktop each time I
boot up. Does anyone have any clues on how I can over come
this problem? I am concerned that I won't receive anyother
updates until this one is successfully installed. Thanks

Tough problem with Win ME
I am helping a friend with his computer. Working fine after I replaced the
power supply, but there is a problem.
Every time the computer boots up Windows ME boots up OK, and then the
Windows ME installer starts installing another copy of the OS. Ctrl-Alt-Del
and kill process or a Cancel will stop the installer and the computer works
fine until the next time it's booted up, when the Windows ME wants to
install itself again.
I was told that the installer is located in the MBR and that the only
solution is to reformat and reinstall, but that is too drastic, anyone have
a better solution?
Thanks in advance,

Updates That Keep Telling me to Update
I cannot remember the patch number of the numerous
security patches for my Windows ME. I currently have one
that I have downloaded and installed a minimum of three
times. But the popup keeps coming back that I need to
download the same patch time after time. I've encountered
this problem with at least one previous patch.
Trying to get help from Microsoft is not successful and it
is less that a satisfactory experience. For this reason,
and other issues I have with Microsoft, I look forward to
the day that another company produces a good substitute
O.S. to replace the Microsoft Beauracracy/Money Making
Machine.
I would appreciate any help offered to clear up this
problem, and if somebody passes this message on to Bill
Gates, tell him I'd love to talk to him if he has concerns
about my negative attitude about Microsoft. Might be time
for a wakeup call. Tag: Recovering ME after HDD format Tag: 212371

BIOS Upgrade Problem
I never thought it so difficult in upgrading BIOS with my

tried utmost in success in getting the new BIOS version

work but unfortunately I failed. The reason is I cannot
get into the so-called Real Dos mode. When I use the
upgrade floppy disk to boot, there is always a
message:"cannot flash when memory manager (eg.HIMEM) are
present".I must upgrade the BIOS as Windows ME always
goes to hang up when I surf on the internet while windows
2000 turns the machine to dead.

Microsoft Security update - Virus
Over the past 3 days I have receoved the same email 4

Possible solution to the msqsrv32 problem!
After playing with my mates PC for weeks I think I have
solved his problem. His PC would not boot. As soon as it
got to the backdrop it would freeze. Ctrl+Alt+Del would
show Msqsrv32 not responding. Trawled through many user
forums with most people sugesting that this was a power
management problem. Tried all the options - no joy. I then
did the unthinkable and formatted his hard disk (After
backup of course). When I was doing a fresh install of
WinME it froze when it reached the "Detecting Hardware"
stage. After doing a Ctrl+Alt+Del it again came up with
Msqsrv32 not responding. Then realising that this could
possibly be a hardware problem i removed all non essential
hardware i.e. Modem, Graphics Card, Soundcard etc. I then
installed WinMe with NO errors. I then installed one piece
of hardware at a time and found out that it was the Modem
that was causing the problem. Bought and paid for a new
one and Hey Presto it works. Now I am not suggesting to
everyone that this will be the cause for everyones Msqsrv
faults, but it may be something to check out.
