What is the right hand side of the Start Bar called? And how does one put an
icon on the right hand side where the time, volume control etc are?

I've done it several times before but my mind has gone completely blank now.

Incidentally, I could just drag and put one on the LH side which is easy.
What actually is the difference between the two. I know on the LH side it is
only a shortcut while those on the RH side are memory resident. Any into
appreciated.

As I said, my mind has gone completely blank. Must be my age!

The area you are referring to is known as the System Tray or systray. For an
application to appear in this area or minimise to this area requires it to be
written and configured to do so. Check the options and preferences for any
application that you think you'd like to see appear in the systray and see if
this is an available option.

Are you refering to the "Quick Launch" area ?

Right click on a blank area of the bar between START and the right hand systray icons. Select "Toolbars">"Quick Launch" and a check mark will appear in the list. Use ESC key or exit.

QuickLaunch is by default on the left side of the TaskBar - next to the
Start button

Yes, but in WinME help files there is no reference either to System Tray or
Systray.

So my question still stands. This is the part of the Taskbar (which I think
the correct name of the Start bar) on the rightmost side that includes the
clock, volume control etc? And how does one get an icon into it which click
starts an application?

And it should come as no surprise to you that I ask you to reread my previous

Yes it is, and no you can't--not unless the app is written for it. Read
previous replies more carefully.
