    - gojheikh.exe Does anyone know what gojheikh.exe is? Recently, when I tried to shut down my laptop, I got a warning message that gojheikh.exe is closing. I waited and clicked "cancel", and then nothing happened. So I tried to shut down again, but the same message poped up again. I clicked "end now", and it could shut down as usual. I wondered what happen. After I searched in my laptop, I found two files with this name, gojheikh. One is an exe file (it is located under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32), and the other is a PF file (located under C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch). Can someone please explain what they are for. Thanks!     - Using Kato's Restoration.exe FAT32 Undelete File [this is edited version of post in thread in non-MS Company's newsgroups. Posted in XP group cuz it's busy :-) ] Quick background: Computer is Win Me, FAT32 one HD, no partitions. yesterday, cleaning out files. Today, two low level folders are gone. It's possible they were wiped out by crashes, since recently, I have to restart the computer multiple times. I haven't found a backup system that works with CDs and overly long names, without hours of manual hunting and editing. So most recent backups are incomplete, and didn't include one of these low level folders (grrr) to avoid overwriting clusters on the "sick" computer, I'm using this other computer (on the net now) for any purpose but Restoration. . Restoration.exe: 1 I'm choosing all of the options. For instance, a first one cannot use "*" wildcard, so I used just the period "." However I see more than 50k files, so I'll need some mass ignore or delete scheme. 2 Kato's Read Me has a 2nd section of instructions. "All clusters scan (FAT partition)" Is this section referring to the step in the instructions above, "if you want to scan vacant clusters, if you couldn't find your target file, please select yes. (FAT partition)" ????? 3 to avoid concurrent over writing, should I use CTRL+Alt+Del to kill resident apps, such as win's Restore? Seems I should. But, very few apps can be killed in ctrl+alt+del :( hidserv, rundll, systray. AntiVirus ware. That's about it. 4 While doing tedious manual sifting, can I copy to a networked drive?     - Baffling IE6 problem... The following is from a fellow I am working with who is having major IE6 browser problems......and I know I should recognize that error. His browser was totally useless so I figured he had a browser hijacker. He has XP Home, not ME.....but we have used AdAware, Spybot, Stinger, Norton, CWS and HiJack This and nothing shows up...... Any ideas folks?? He can't use his browser at all. I have had to email him some of the smaller spyware programs. OE works. Mow Green on Aumha is working hard on it.....but damned if I can figure this one out. Final clue.....just got an email from a mutual friend and he got *spam* from this fellow.....so does he have a trojan? Virus?? Not spyware apparently...... Baffled......Figgs First, I just observed that the Internet Explorer goes to this web address each time I open it: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm Does that give any clue? I typed in www.yahoo.com under "Open" and it just gave the same "This page cannot be open" message. Then I closed IE and started it again, and the same "Windows" address showed up.     - Errors during startup I am running Windows ME and during the startup sequence I get the following error messages: MSGRV32 has caused an error in IPHLPAPI.DLL; Autochk has caused an error in KRNL386.exe; Shadow has caused an error in IPHLPAPI.DLL; and Wallpapr has caused an error in IPHLPAPI.DLL.     - AMI BIOS I have a Tiny 800mhx AMD on a MS-6340 main board. I installed an orignal roxio photo-suite 5 and when i restarted after the install my computer wouldn't even launch the bios page. This is what has happened on various different restarts. I reset the bios and changed the battery. BIOS page loaded and said CMOS Settings Wrong and CMOS/GPNV Checksum BAD. press f1 to set up or F2 to load defaults. Sometimes the keyboard doesn't respond here, and some time it does but i just get a black screen with blinking _ in the top left. Sometime when i restart i just get CMOS Settings Wrong and the same as above happens. Now I cant even get that, i just get a blinking _ in the top left corner. I have changed the memory and unplugged all the hardware and reseated everything but it dont make any difference. Some times I get a 2 beep error message other times i get a 2beep, 1 beep code.     - Caution? Or is it just me?? Downloaded the latest Windows Update security patch (867801) and my computer had a non-stop series of errors.....Msgxxx that shut down IE....Java had a problem and shut down IE....screens kept freezing and general bad behaviour. Did a system restore within a few minutes of this odd behaviour and all is now fine. Nothing else had been changed and I just restored back 4 hours. Maybe see if anyone else has any problems???     - Outlook Express keeps shutting down .....after a few minutes. It's been fine for 3 years and now this. My Outlook Express totally closes without warning after a few minutes. I also get "Outlook Express did not shut down properly" just as if I shut the computer down from the CPU.     - Share Command Missing I've lost the command to share a folder in the context menu when I right-click on a folder. Is there a registry setting to restore the command? I had recently lost the "New" command also but was able to restore it through the registry. My existing shares are still accessible, but I'm not able to modify the settings or unshare the folder.     - Tired of Viruses Ok, here is a new issue for me, but by far the most frustrating. I have run all 3 of my virus programs, all say I'm clean, yet when I go launch my home page (yahoo), it loads for a second, then switches to "about:blank" (some search page virus). What's worse, is when I go to MSN to check my Hotmail, it will let me sign in, see that I have 12 messages there, then quick flash to that "about:blank". I have not been able to get my email in days, nor will it let me get to any "Help" or "Contact us" pages at either MSN or Yahoo. I continually edit the information in the registry to remove any mention of "about:blank", yet even with system restore off, it does not save may changes.     - NOD32 Error Message Using the scanner in NOD32, I encounter the following error message in blue letters: "Error occured while scanning MBR sector of the third physical disk. Error reading sector." I have two disks, one with four partitions and one alone. C,E,G and F are part of the partitioned disk and D is by itself. Which is the third one and how can this error be fixed, if possible. Or can it be ignored, since it doesn't cause any problems at all? My Registry Mechanic doesn't detect anything wrong! Thanks.     - Putting Icon on Start Bar RH side What is the right hand side of the Start Bar called? And how does one put an icon on the right hand side where the time, volume control etc are?     - power cut during defragmentation I was defragmenting my hard drive using Speed Disk from Norton Utilities 2002 when there was a power cut. When the electricity came back on the computer wouldn't boot to Windows Me, it advised me to start in Safe Mode, and when I try to do this it thinks for a moment then goes straight to "it is now safe for you to turn off your computer. I used the Norton Utilities CD to run Disk Doctor without going into Windows, and it found a few problems, most of which I had had before (missing shortcuts etc.) and I pressed Y to fix these. It also found that the File Allocation Tables didn't match, and I pressed Y to fix them as well. It told me to insert a floppy disc to record the changes it was making. It proceeded to fix the problem but it ran out of space on the floppy disk and tried to back out of the repair. It then had a problem backing out as well. Sorry, but I don't remember what it said exactly, I was getting pretty flustered. I ran Disk Doctor again and it found thousands of lost chains (or something like that). Now, when I switch the computer on I am told that I have got an invalid system disk. I'm sorry I am not very clear, I realize now I should have written everything down. I hope that someone has the time to work out what I mean. There are some pictures on the computer that I don't want to lose. I had a real badd version of cool web search on my system that I couldnt get rid off. I would identify it using hijack this and winpatrol and delete it. but it would just come back on reboot. I unistalled ME and then ran adaware, spybot, cwshredder. and then reinstalled ME.Is there any other protection against reinfection?
