After a few hours, windows programs freeze and won't open. I can
logoff/shutdown
but need to reboot to get things working again.

Problem is new. Only recently added program was Microsoft Publisher 2002.
Will take any and all advice. Have searched knowledge base and some groups
without success.

Thanks

Yeah, update to XP. You'll wonder what you ever saw in Me.

SG:

Microsoft's Help and Support features this article:
"Publisher 2002 stops responding (hangs) when you try to start or use it."
The article was previously published under Q32119.
Hopefully it will provide relief for you in your situation without
necessitating a costly upgrade(?) to WinXP. You may want to do that later
on, after you took care of your problem first.

Harry.

harry: thanks for the guidance, but have the latest printer driver per the
document and issue is other programs (and computer) freezing versus just
Print Shop. Appreciate your thoughtfulness but still stuck.

Thx.

SG:
As I later noticed, this particular Help & Support feature was designed for
WinXP.
There is at least one other case scenario, linked to your problem, but
you'll have to find it by typing your exact problem message into the search
box of the Windows Help and Support website. I am not experienced enough to
give you the direct link here.
With a little patience and some luck you'll find what you are looking for,
unless someone else will pick up the torch and carry it for you from here.
Sorry about that.

Harry.

Sounds like you have a resources problem - don't you get any warning
messages saying "Low Memory" or "Low Resources"??
Use the Resource Meter app to keep an eye on these things - it should be in
Programs|Accessories|SystemTools - if it's not there, then you'll need to
install it from Add/Remove Programs|Windows Setup|System Tools - I'd also
install and run the System Monitor to keep an eye on the "Swapfile in Use"
(Ignore the CPU usage - it's known to be buggy)

Have you perchance limited the Virtual Memory? - are you running Norton
software??

When the system freezes - can you do a C-A-D and get the Task Manager up?? -
if so, what's running - does anything show as 'not responding'??

OTOH, it may be that the system is trying to go into standby mode, and
failing - temporarily turn off all power-saving options and see if that
helps.
