    - Losing E-Mail In and out To Microsoft Update Support Since the last Windows update, I am losing about 70 percent of my incoming mail, and part of my outgoing mail. I use Windows ME and Outlook Express. ISP is Earthlink via Time Warner (Brighthouse) cable. I have called EarthLink 4 times and worked with their techs for about 3 hours, also spent about an hour using Earthlink "Chat" support. No problems found my computer, Outlook Express settings, or with their end so far. The mail is visible with MailWasher and EarthLink Web Mail, never arrives.     - Having Serious Problem - PLEASE HELP!! I recently am facing a SEVERE problem with my Windows. I run Windows ME on a Compaq PC, have been for the last 2.5 years. My problem is that whenever I try to install a program, the following is said: "(Program) has caused an error in <unknown>. (Program) will now close. If you have any problems, please restart your computer" I became aware of this problem about a week ago when I tried to update my MSN messenger. And not only that, but NONE of any new programs will install. Always, there is an error in "<unknown>" . I am desperate, as I do not want to format my harddrive (have lots of important files there) and I have done everything in my power to correct it. I just simply cannot seem to correct that problem. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Help Me, as I am SEVERELY Desperate!! :( ANY HELP would be HIGHLY appreciated! P.S.     - Computer freeze ups I am a Win ME user for many years. I keep the updates current and scandisk/defrag monthly. Lately I have been finding my computer locked up. It locked while using, or when I afk. Reset is the only way out of it. I have been scanning my drive for errors and everything says okie. I have increase ram and added cooling devices to help keep cpu cool. I have also kep side panels off to add to better ventilation. I have used ad-aware to remove many spybots. I use symantecs Internet Security & NAV (ALL current and updated). Direct x9 does nto work properly on my machine. I have had to do system restore a couple of times I installed it. I am using AMD 750mhz processor. My ram maxes at 768 w/ 133mhx speed. If there is any further information needed to help me fix this problem, please note me.     - AOL Hi, I posted a question concerning aol on the 16th of this month, saying that I was having problems with aol broadband. I am still unable to connect to the internet via my aol broadband modem, (the modem is a BT Voyager 100). I have contacted aol helpline numerous times with regards to this issue, and following todays conversation with them, I have now been told that there may be a problem with my windows installer, and that I should repair this. Unfortunatly, the person I was speaking to was not very clear on how I should go about doing this.     - taskbar icons Hello, The icons in the taskbar have become very blurred. The start button, system tray and desktop are fine but the quick launch bar and whatever comes up between it and the system tray are blurred, some barely visible.     - Mouse problem Hi: I have a mouse problem with my Compaq Presario Win 98ME, I had to run the restored disk and the restore installed with no problems, I loaded Norton antivirus 2004 and MSN9, I updated Norton antivirus and ran a system scan with no problem. But when I started downloading Windows updates one at a time with a restart after each install, after about the fourth update the computer rebooted to the desktop and my mouse froze in the middle of the screen, is there a way to get the mouse to thaw without doing a system restore again.     - Best Registry Cleaner? My computer has been in constant use for over 3 years. I know that the registry **has** to be bloated. I have read that some registry cleaners end up deleted needed entries, and you end up with unwanted problems. At the same time, I have read that the current crop of registry cleaners are better at doing their intended job of routing out duplicated and outdated entries. Yet, I don't know which one is really considered as being the "best." I know that I should first back up the registry before running the utility, and also to create a fresh restore point just prior to the sweep.     - Trouble with desktop icons The desktop icons My Computer and My Documents won't open when I double click them. I recently upgraded to XP Home, same problem. The task manager shows CPU usage of 100% when I double click these icons, also control panel and find files and folders does the same thing. I have Norton Antivirus with current definitions, but it does not detect the viruses sdware.ncase and adware.bookedspace. I printed the instructions from Symantec, and manually removed these viruses, but they keep recurring. My Windows version is ME, and my IE version is 6.0.2800.1106. Also, I cannot print to a network printer from any programs or to print a test page. When I try to go to start/setting/printers, and select the printer, I get the same error I did on startup ["rundll has caused an error in mmsystem.dll. rundll will now close. if you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer."] if I try a second time, then I get the properties box, where I can click to print a test page, and then I get an error, "Windows was unable to print the test page. Would you like to begin troubleshooting now?" Troubleshooter is unable to resolve the problem. Also, in IE, I keep getting an unwated search bar poping up. I can turn it off by going to view, and toolbars, but there is no name for it. I just click to uncheck the blank space, and this searchbar goes away. Also, my default home page keeps resetting to http://www.i-lookup.com, no matter how many times I reset it. Also, I tried to add this page to tools/internet options/security/restricted sites, but It will not allow it, saying it is already on another zone, which it is not, visibly.     - _restore file Hopefully someone in this forum can help me with this problem. I recently got an anti-virus program. It found 26 viruses on my computer and eliminated 3 of them. The other 23 are in the file \_restore on my computer. It cannot eliminate these files because as you all know, they are 'system' files which cannot be deleted. The only way I can see to delete these files is to delete the entire file. Is there a way to do this? I've tried everything I can think of but to no avail. Can anyone help me here?     - Hardware resources changes Yesterday, defrag seemed to be starting automatically. WHenever I noticed it, I cancelled it. I did a restart before I went to bed & didn't bother logging on.     - .tmp files NOT in Windows\TEMP Folder....OK to Delete? When I do a search for files on my PC by entering .tmp or .TMP , the search brings up over 3,600 files with the extension .tmp or .TMP. Most of these are in C:\\Windows. Othere are in C:\\Windows\System They are not in C:Windows\TEMP folder, however. So I'm wondering how safe it is to delete ALL of these? Many of them have long odd filenames such as : fffe73e9_{A3D4287C-53F7-4745-A98A-3C3C6D2317A3}.tmp Aside form the practical question about deleting all these, I'm also curious as to what they are.     - no icons in "My Documents" I am having problems with my computer after picking up malware of some sort. I have run my AV scan and CWShredder and Ad-Aware to try to clean up my system. I am looking for suggestions on how to deal with the following: When I look in the folders "My Documents" and "My Computer", the window shows none of the contents of the folder. It tells me how many objects are there but no icons are visible. The items are not deleted because I can open them in other ways. What has happened to cause this? Can I fix it? Did startup disk, Scanreg /fix and Scanreg /restore previous backup. Even tried using WinMe CD same error. Was running Regmon, before it caused an error in kernel32.dll.     - problems since upgrading to outlook express 6.0 I recently upgraded to outlook express 6.0. and the new version of microsoft internet explorer. Since then, when I close this program I get an eror message "Msimn has caused an error in Kernel32.DLL. Msimn will now close" The error message box does not close when I click the close button. Despite this, I can still use other programs and re-open outlook express 6.0 Additionally, I have not been able to open text file e- mail attachments since upgrading to OE 6.0. I CAN open and view e-mail photo attachments. I went to the Microsoft page and downloaded the available patches and updates for Outlook Express 6.0, but this has not helped.     - Attn Mike M or others Ok Mike, It seemed as though my computer problems started around a month or so ago after I deleted some Java system files. The problem seemed to get much worse over the past week or so. My biggest problem at this point is that my computer continually freezes up while I am online. It usually happens when I am trying to move to a new location. I get many error "boxes". 1. "WJ view "system could not find file" This pops up every time I start my computer. 2. "DW caused an error in DW.EXE. DW will now close" Also every time I start up. 3. "/explore error in USER.EXE." I ran updated virus check and my computer looks clean?? Noel recommended I download adaware. I did that and quarintened many files, but without change after restarting computer. What do you guys recommend I do???     - Deleted some system files OOPs ! Hello, I mistakingly deleted some system files a few months ago. Since then my computer has not been right. Go figure! My recyling bin is empty.     - Missing file after reinstalling Windows I had Windows ME reinstalled on my computer after getting a virus. Win ME used to prompt with a drop down list of the profile
names on boot up,now it just prompts with the last user
name. I have researched it all over and no success. Any
takers?

Open the Network tool in the Control Panel, click the Add button, then
select Client, select Microsoft as the source, then install Microsoft Family
Logon.
