Routine maintenance might fix this. Do a complete virus scan with current
definitions. Scan for SpyWare with www.lavasoftusa.com. Become familiar with
what's running in the background and close things you don't need or use.
Look in your StartUp folder and also Start/Run/msconfig StartUp. Go here to
learn about what's safe to remove:

Do a ScanDisk and DeFrag ... in Safe Mode if necessary.
In the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select IE & Tools, Remove, and
then choose the option to Repair. If after all this, the problem persists,
reinstall IE6.

When I use Microsoft Internet Explorer (Version 6, SP1) I very often get
the following message when I shut the IE application:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Sometimes this happens while I am surfing the internet and not trying to
shut down IE.
Any ideas on why this happens? What is wrong?
