    - ScanDisk restart error Hi everyone, Last night I decided to do a "thorough" Scandisk on my computer and let it fix any errors it found. I know that this can take a very long time, so I disabled my screensaver, started ScanDisk, shut off my monitor and happliy went off to bed. Alas, when I awoke in the morning, I expected to see a ScanDisk report on my screen. Instead, I saw "ScanDisk has restarted 10 times due to information being written to the hard drive. Do you wish to disable programs and continue running Scandisk?". (or something very close to that) I had nothing running other than Norton Firewall and Virus protection in the background.     - critical updates hi, i did the critical updates package yesterday. it screwed up my whole computer. Now that i finally got back on afer trying forever, when i go to internet explorer to play pinochle via yahoo like i used to it wont load or let me play anymore. Also sometimes now when i shut down it goes to windows screen takes a long time then the black screen comes up saying unable to install certain updates, windows may not start properly. anyone can give me info as to how to fix this now. it ran perfect before the critical update yesterday.     - freeze I am experiencing a new problem with my computer and wonder if anyone can help. After the system has been up and running a while, the cursor starts hesitating and freezing. This will happen anywhere-IE, mail, desktop. I can here clicking activity in the CPU and the CD-Rom lights blink.     - Virtual Device driver After several days of safe mode starts I finally found my USB bus extender to be causing the problem. In trouble shooting this problem I found a virtual Device driver called TICKLE.VXD. Does anyone know who this is installed by. Properties say applic. unknown. It starts in SYSTEM.INI under 386E nh.     - unwanted connections I purchased an etower from Best Buy about 3 years ago with Windows ME.Iv'e had many small problems which I have been able to work out over the years but there is one that really bothers me and Best Buy claims that they can't fix this problem because it "never happens to them" when I take it in for service. The problem I have is that the computer dials up on its own.Sometimes it is 5 minutes after I log off and sometimes several hours.It has become more and more frequent recently.     - Rundll32 Error Message When starting my computer, (Windows ME), I get error messages: 1st message: Rundll32 has caused an error in (unknown). Rundll32 will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer. (Close) 2nd message: Rundll 32 has caused an error in 2NDSRCH.DLL, (then same as above) (Close) 3rd message: (X) Error loading 2NDSRCH.DLL. A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization failed.     - bootup hangs on "updating configuration files" I have just installed a critical update from Microsoft (something about=20 Active X 9.0, I think) and now my computer will not boot Win ME. I=20 have left it for over 6 hours with a message on the screeen: "Please = wait=20 while setup updated your configuration files. This may take a few=20 minutes..."     - CD-Writer? This just isn't my day! I was burning some jpeg files to a CD, put a CD in the drive & clicked on create CD, I got a message asking for a CD with enough room etc. or something to that effect, so instead of putting a different CD in I went ahead & clicked on re-try.     - Somebody is spoofing I recently received five email rejects from AOL that seem to have originated from my system and OE at first glance. However, the versions for OE and OLE do not match my systems. The addressees are not in any address book on my system. There are (according to current virus scanners and some other email related utilities) no applications or trojans on my system that can cause such a thing. What is even more interesting is that I currently do not normally send mail via MSN, due to my cable IP's port blocking. (A very small number of messages were sent out thru the MSN hotmail selection during a recent pop3/passport outage earlier in the week. ) The cable IP mail server does not appear in the header information. It looks like someone sent stuff to AOL users, spoofed my address and the MSN mail server. Is anyone else having this sort of problem? Or, is this (I hope) an isolated incident.     - passwords I want to have the startup process include a request for a password. I have the computer connected to a router for a small network. When I start the computer, it doesn' ask for a password but goes directly to the normal desktop display. I have to then log-off and back on to get the password screen to come up and which then allow access to the network. My computer runs Windows ME and I have recently had the
problem that whenever I go to shut down my computer it
automatically restarts itself after going through its
standard shut down procedure. Anyone have any thoughts
about why this might be happening?! Thanks.
