Apart from prefixing file names with numbers is there a way to prevent file
names from being automatically serialized when I display them.

I would like to organize my digital camera photos by month within discrete
folders numbered by year: January first, February next, and so on to
December, not with April on top and October at the bottom.

Thanx, Ken Bland

Windows remembers the layout of a folder for when you view it next time. If
you were to create folders in the order you would like to see them,
regardless of name, you only need to sort column by the modified date. So
January would show up on top because it was made before the April folder was
made. You can change view to thumbnails if you want to and it will keep its
order. If while making the folders in detail view, you don't see a column
for modified date, right click in a column name and it will show you a
listing of what details you can have the windows show you.

Excellent idea, Kevin, and I should have realized that. Since it's
impossible for me to add another folder with a date that precedes those I
already have, my "months" folders will always come out where I want them.

Many thanks,
