Ok.. Windows wont let me install anything. Everytime i try
to install software, the infamous blue screen pops up and
gives me this error:

File Error: VMM(12)+ 00004c3c Error: OE: 0028:c0283c3c

I dont know what to do, i did a search on this newsgroup
for this type of error and found one message related to
it. The guy that responded said to download belarcadvisor
to find the problem, but when i tried to install it.. the
error came up. I cant install anything!! its driving me
nuts. Any help would be great.

I see that you have attracted little help with your problem.

When I was having the same problem I found your posting. My problem
occurred just after loading Corel WordPerfect onto WinME system. Doing
so left my C: drive with just a tad under 2 GIG free space. And after
the error, I got a message that my Registry was corrupted and an
automatic repair would be attempted. Sometimes I permitted the repair
and sometimes I did not.

I naturally focused on the WordPerfect install which got partially
destroyed each time I got the error message, and completely destroyed
each time I let the Registry be repaired. This meant several system
restores from a saved copy of my C: drive and a reinstall of WordPerfect
(about 6 times). Time better spent reading trash novels.

One of the things I did was limit the number of "Startup Programs" that
got loaded at reboot from zero to max incrementing by 1 each time.
(Talk about time consuming?) And I found that it wasn't a specific
program that caused the problem, but just the total number of programs
being loaded at startup.

I took the opportunity to stop putting off minimizing the number of
startup programs. This worked so that the error did not occur right
away. But sooner or later in a session, I got the dreaded "Blue Screen
of Death" with the VMM error.

Since VMM is virtual memory management and more virtual memory is needed
to handle the startup load, I figured that for some reason there must be
a conflict for the need for more virtual memory even though I had 2 GIG
available. I again did what I have postponed doing since I brought up
my WinME system. I would free up more space on C: drive and make my
system more responsive when paging by moving my virtual memory to
another physical drive with over 5 GIG free.

Since doing the above, I have had no more VMM(12) error messages in the
past week. And yes, WordPerfect is installed and working.
