    - windows ME hangs on reboots when installing new software, updates, patches or norton utilities optomization that includes optomizing the registry, that requires a reboot of the computer to make the changes effective, the computer shuts down to a black screen with a white blinking cursor. It goes no further and is completely hung requiring a power off to get it to restart. Using a restart from the shutdown options works fine as does a control alt delete. It only hangs when software etc tries to reboot the computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Tag: Passward during Boot.up Tag: 206846

    - windows update error when i try to access windows update website i get as far as "ready to scan for updates" then i get an error window with the error #0x800A138F then it says windows has encountered a problem and they give me the choice of sending in the error number which i have done and also accessing three self help knowlede bases which brings me here. I am using windows me and i am running some basic programs like zone alarm and norton anti-virus and a program called spyblocker. i tried to disable all three programs cleaned my cookies and deleted my files and still no luck!!!     - Saving Pictures to 'My Pictures" Folder I can no longer save pictures from web pages to "My Pictures", which I formerly could with no trouble. Now when I right click on picture, click 'Save Picture As", and select *.bmp as my file choice, and attempt to save it into "My Pictures"folder, it is saved as "File".     - 0E exception errors I keep getting OE exception erros and have no idea what is=20 causing it. An exception 0E has occurred at 0028 : C000BF74 in VXD --- . So, I have the current Norton virus defs etc and am behind a NAT gateway router. Still, I was curious so started looking for the files the subject infection creates on a PC. I found winstt32.dat, winppr32.exe and w32.sobig.f@mm in the following registry folder: hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\internet explorer\explorer bars\{C4EE31F3-4768 etc (some kind of ID)}\FilesNamedMRU.     - DESPERATE - Blank Windows Explorer screens, and even Restore Program screen I just sat down to update my son's Windows Me system and there were a lot of MS updates he needed. I loaded them. Now, When I open My Computer, I can see his hard drive, CD drive, Control Panel, etc. listed. But when I select any of those items, I get a blank Windows Explorer screen. The status line will show "34 objects" for example, but NOTHING can be seen or visibly selected. There are no column headings when I switch to details view. If I do Control-A, it indicates all 34 objects have been selected. It does this in most folders, but I remembered some folder names and found I could browse to them and see their contents in the usual manner. An example was C:/Program Files/Plus! showed me the folders and files as it should. When I then browse back UP the tree, it again shows the folders above it as blank. Control Panel is blank - but the status line says the objects are there. So, I tried to run RESTORE but it does not load. I run it a second time and it just gives me a blank screen. I have been trying to d/l the latest Kodak Easyshare software for Windows (v. 3.2) and every time I try, the "File Download" manager d/l's a file titled "install_easyshare.exe" - sounds good, right? Well, the file is supposed to be around an 11M file, IIRC, yet what I get is a .zip file of 506k - and it is an installer for USR/3Com "Internet Update Wizard"! (Nope, I don't even have a USR/3Com modem!). I've tried this on 2 different computers (home network), using NS 7.0, 7.1, Mozilla 1.3, 1.4, and IE 5.5SP2. In fact, in response to my emails, Kodak support keeps telling me I MUST use IE and I can upgrade my IE to v. 5.1 or higher at microsoft.com! (Silly me - I thought 5.5 WAS "higher" than 5.1!)     - Restore Points -- number of restore backup points I think WINME sets the number of backup points to 5. However, a year ago I recall a method of changing that to whatever you wanted. I've forgotten how to tweak the registry (I think that was how it was done) to change to 10. Why would you want to do this? Today I couldn't get any of 4 restore points to boot. The screen is mostly black except for the message. I have tried to do a "safe start" but that is not working either; the message still appears. ctr/alt/del is no help. I don't know if related, but for the past few days I have been unable to shut down from the shutdown menu; requesting the system "shutdown" has only resulted in a "restart".
