    - Crazy Mouse Help! I have a Dell laptop with built in mouse pad and external logitech trachball and microsoft trackball. My pointer will disengage from all controls and "wander" accross the screen going where ever it desires. Sometimes hitting the "control" locator key will bring it back on line, other times it will just get stuck in a corner and will take a time before it becomes usable again. Either trackball will have the same problem and sometimes the mouse pad can be used even if the external mouse (mice?). Dell has been unable to understand a fix and microsoft has not been of help either. Any ideas besides "skipping" the laptop accross the lake?     - W32Netsky I have the feeling of a drowning person. Here I thought to have everything under control, when I find out about this pesty 'W32Netsky Virus' in my system. I ran the 'McafeeAvertStinger' and it found a mess of that virus hidden in 'RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS.CAB' files and the "Stinger" isn't taking care of them, even though I tried both, repair and delete in preferences. When I tried to delete the files myself (they are WinZip files), I was denied access, because 'the source file may be in use'. My question is: how do you delete those files? I know the FS numbers from the stinger's list. Or is there another utility which can take care of the problem? Only my C:\ drive's winzip archive files are infected, the rest is clean.     - folder contents Hi I am looking for a way or 3 rd party program to view the contents of a folder with out opening it. For example to clean up my desktop I made a few category folders and place similar shortcuts inside. Made my desktop nice and neat. However to use a shortcut I have to click on it and then click on the shortcut I want.     - losing connection with DSL/Win Me I'm operating Windows Me. This morning DSL through SBC Yahoo was activated. To test transfer rate compared to dialup, I went to Quicktime.com to download a trailer. 5-15 seconds (varies) into it, it cuts off, and IE (5.5) says "Could not download <file> from <server>" and "connection to web page's server was lost." I've also noticed a related phenomenon when I browse. Sometimes the page loads fully, sometimes it loads but without all the graphics, and sometimes it says "page not found". Refreshing generally gets me the whole page. If I go back through the old phone dialup, I don't get this error. I can download anything (albeit it takes longer). This only happens when connected through DSL. A similar error occurs when I try it through Netscape. But another machine connected to the same (2wire) portal, but running Windows 98, has no trouble downloading the trailer. I've talked to about half a dozen SBC or 2wire techs. They all read their scripts and have me change this and that under Internet Options, but nothing changes. For what it's worth, I can send and receive Outlook mail with no problems.     - saving attachments/folder search I just did a Windows update (last one was done in Feb!) anyway when i go to save attachments I need scroll for the proper folder (as usual) but when I want tosave another attachment in the same folder I nfind myself back to the original C drive & need to rescroll to my external hard drive & correct folder! This never happened before, I am used to scrolling to different folders when saving attachments but this is ridiculous. I have re booted, I even did a restore & nothing helps.     - compressed folder problems can someone please tell me exactly what file/program/whatever opens a compressed folder, mine has been changed and I need to correct it. To do this you simply create a compressed folder and right click it. Then choose the last choice which is "properties". Under the General tab it should say "opens with:".     - thnx silj and jack thnx to both. I followed up on your suggestions to no avail. But I did find a solution. I went back to hp's recovery cd's and reinstalled mmkeyboard. Problem solved. What happened was that I had went to a site re start up programs and was adamantly told to DELETE osd.exe. It said that it wasn't used for anything and could cause problems. Osd.exe is the application that runs on screen messages for netropa. Now osd is back where it was and everything works fine. Words of advice to anyone who might read this thread: Do not, I mean DO NOT delete anything until your sure it won't cause problems. Change the extensions to 'old' or quarantine. If your system seems to be working okay, then delete. No disrespect to either of you. I've gotten valuable advice from you Silj. Thanks for your dedication.     - Can't See Content of Windows - Help! My ME system is working fine except for one major problem: I cannot see the content of windows. For instance, when I click on explore, the contents of My Documents are not shown. All I see is that there are, say, 20 items in folder (as reported on the lower bar/pane of the window). The same is true for surfing the net. Using explorer, I can see a sight load on the bar, but not see the actual contents of the site - all I get is a blank page. Note, that I can surf successfully using Netscape. After getting kernel32.dll errors on closing Explorer, I decided to delete Explorer updates using Add/Remove. Upon reboot, the above problems started - blank windows. I've checked for all the latest viruses, and run the latest version of CWShredder. Again, I'm still encountering the problem. I'd love to restore, but I cannot see the add/remove programs icon because everything is invisible. How can I restore the missing component or solve the problem without reformatting?     - I Need Serious Help I have a dell computer with microsoft ME on it. Recently I downloaded windows media player from the net onto my computer because mine had been deleted. Now my computer is not doing anything! When I turn it on it does the dell sign then the windows me sign, but when it gets to the main screen it goes to an error page. The error page says: error:0E (i forgot the other numbers). It would let me do anything only ALT CTRL DELETE. Which did nothing but start that whole process over again. Since I couldn't do anything with that, I and did the step by step conformation. When it got to the one about load all drivers- I put yes. But the first two drivers I disconnected and put yes for the rest. After that it did everything like it was suppose to until I tried to get on the internet. Does anyone know what the problem is?     - Recycle Bin error Hi In Windows ME Recycle Bin, whenever I empty it does so but always gives an error message: "Error deleting or finding specified file" _CLNGFAN Cannot find the specified file I think its referring to a very old fan speed program that I once had. The Bin shows that its empty but i still get that message. The "file" never shows up in the Bin so I guess its a registry error or something.     - An Error Has Occurred I just recently scanned my computer for adware and malware and discovered over 400 items. They were deleted and I performed a virus scan and deleted 9 more items. I don't have to tell you my computer was running very slowly and functions were erratic.     - Scan Disk Dialog Bax Appears on Boot-Up (WinMe) Hi, I just finished re-installing Windows Me ona Gateway PC, due to some prior file corruption problems. Now, upon boot-up, the scan disk dialog box appears. I have tried: - Letting the scan disk run (it gets to about 65% and stops) - Downloading and executing 273017USAM. exe from this website Neither of the above has helped. The Scan Disk dialog box still appears every time the system boots (even when it had been properly shut down. One more thing (and I don't know if there is any relation),after reinstalling WinMe, I tried to reinstall MS Works. It took forever to load, and brought the operating system to its knees.     - last resort? I know this is me gen group but I've exhaust hp and netropa forums. In the past few weeks I've updated my computer with everything ms said I needed. I've downloaded adaware, spybot, cwshredder, spywareblaster, avg and za firewall. I have an hp system w/one touch netropa keyboard functions. The one touch buttons work fine, but I've recently have lost the display that comes up on the screen when you use these buttons. ie volume control bars don't show up when adjusting volume. Previously when I pushed the internet button, the url would flash on the screen prior to connecting. Same for the search, help and mute buttons.     - MS Office/Word 2000 Problem A while back I noticed in the Downloaded Program Files folder that both the Office Update Installation Engine and the OPU Catalog Class entries had "damaged" beside them. Someone said the next time I go to scan at MS for the Word program, it would download new ones......well, it won't. And it won't scan my computer because it says it can's find the OPU Catalog........     - Win ME control panel I set an option in tweakui that removed the control panel from "my computer" and "start-settings". If i go to start-settings-dialupnetworking, for instance, and then click "up one folder" i go into the control panel, but get a "restrictions error" for almost every tool in the control panel. I would imagine this is because of control panel not appearing in "my computer." I would like to know if there is a way to make control panel reappear in "my computer" without using any of the control panel tools, including tweakui.     - explorer error 7082808388.tmp A friend of mine reports recieving an error message when his PC boots to the desktop. It says "explorer has caused an error 7082808388.tmp" When he clicks OK then all of his icons disappear and his machine reboots. As long as he does nothing with the error message he can use his PC with no problems. He tells me he moves the dialog box to one side of the screen. He has found this tmp file in his windows/temp folder. Since he can't delete it because it reports being used, he booted into safe mode and deleted the file.
