Outlook Express: How can I view images posted in pieces?

I'm using Outlook Express 5. In many cases I see images posted in
newsgroups, but a picture may be split and posted in two or more pieces. I
can't view individual pieces; all I see is numerical data if I do. How can
I reliably download both (or more) files and combine them for ordinary
viewing?

1. Select all the messages which comprise the pieces of the picture. Use SHIFT
or CTRL as necessary to get them all highlighted.

2. Right click on one of them (usually the first one) and select "Combine and
decode."

3. Observe the list to make sure they're all in order correctly.

4. Hit OK

However, even once it's assembled, it may still not be something that OE can
display.

In which cases save the file to say the desktop as one would any other
attachment and then use the appropriate viewer.
