I can't get Outlook Express to connect. My ISP helpline
say they can't help as my Windows version, ME, does not
support Outlook Express 6. Is this true?

If so does this mean installing an earlier Outlook version?

Well, your ISP help desk should probably stick with ISP
issues. You can likely get a lot better support from one
of these newsgroups:

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
microsoft.public.windowsme.internet

Regards, Joe
