    - Windows Me not working properly I have windows Me and the past couple months my computer has been acting funny. My internet provider will out of no where just shut off. My computer will freeze and make me restart it at any time. IT often give me errors when i try to start a program, when other times it doesnt give me those errors. Alot of programs i try to download like..aol instant messenger will download and when i try to install them it wont work right. Other people will download the same thing and it will work fine. So something has to be wrong with my computer or windows me. I am not forsure. Can someone please give me things i can do to fix these problems or give me links where i can download things that will help fix it like virus scanners. i dont have much money so if the virus scanners cost dont bother because money is tight around here.     - Windows won't start after enabling DMA for a CDRW Recently, I bought a TEAC CDRW. I installed it on my PC, turned it on and Windows ME loaded normally after correctly detecting the new CDRW. Through the device manager, I enabled the DMA setting for the CDRW and restarted. After this, the computer wouldn't boot. I tried safe mode which loaded normally. I used the registry editor to disable the DMA setting but after restarting in normal mode, windows wouldn't load again. I unplugged the CDRW completely, and windows started normally. Through the registry editor again, I removed every key relevant with the TEAC CDRW. After shutting down and re-plugging the CDRW, windows wouldn't boot once more. I searched through the boot log and found that "esdi_506.pdr" is causing the problem. I even tried replacing this file with the original from the windows ME installation CDROM but nothing happened.     - Missing Icons on Desktop When I started my computer, it came up in safe mode. I restarted my computer and then almost all of my desktop icons were missing and then I went under start, then programs and all of my programs that I had on my computer were under here but my programs were "empty". I couldn't bring up any of my Microsoft Office Programs, like Excel, Money, etc. Does this have anything to do with a virus going around? What did I do wrong?     - Windows Me Hangs on boot up Per the Dell support people, I was told I have the LovSan virus, however, reading through this message board, I'm seeing someone had the problem I'm having well before this (posted 8/3 at 5:36 pm), but no one posted a solution. Any thoughts? (Though I also installed a game a week before it worked fine in the meantime.) Let me know if any other info would be helpful. Thanks!! DKP - text of previous post added: My friend has Windows ME on his computer and recently he installed a game program on it. After restarting the computer it gets stuck on the screen which shows the Windows ME logo. The light blue bar at the bottom of the screen keeps scrolling to the right, so it seems the computer is not hung. But it does not go on any further and just stays on this screen forever. Be booted off a floppy to a DOS prompt and ran 'scandisk /all' and 'scanreg /restore', but it did not help. I've never seen this problem before and there is no error message, so Im not sure what to do next. We are considering reinstall the OS again, but would like to avoid it if possible.     - Windows Explorer View When I select windows explorer it always comes up with the folders column (but no folders in it). I have deselected it and selected the option to set all folders like current, yet when I open windows explorer once more the folders column is showing again (with no folders, it is just a grey column). I also no longer see my percent free disk space in the lower status bar. This all seems to have happened since I did a major upgrade of the windows update site. Any ideas?     - Error message blue screen Hi all, Hoping somebody can help. I had this error message 0028:c000a481 in vxd vmm01 + 00009481 called from 0028:c023f58b vmm(oc) + 0000058b. I've searched Google and there are many different solutions. I've tested the ram & have installed the video driver. It's a Vanta LE. Me says it's not an approved one.     - ME Hangs, no messages ME hangs regardless of what program is active - Internet Explorer,Outlook Express, PhotoShop etc. System hangs - image freezes,no messages, no mouse or keyboard action allowed.     - error message when trying to access Help Each time I hit the Help button (I have Windows ME) I get the message: The initialization of the Help Center failed. Please report the following error to Microsoft Support: 2146869243. I have tried for over a week to contact Microsoft by phone and e-mail but no luck....they are busy dealing with the Critical Path Update problems, I guess. Anyone have suggestions on how I can contact them without waiting a couple hours in a phone call queue? I did go into Microsoft's self-help section and found a similar error message reference. However, a different set of numbers was identifed as the error message and I am concerning about following those directives for correcting the problem. I just spent almost nine hours in getting my computer up and running after attempting to install the critical patch update and creating choas in doing so!     - ddhelp error message I have recently installed a new hard drive into a system with a clean WinME installation. No additional software has been installed that loads at startup, save for drivers for my old Radeon 7200 vintage 64meg agp card, onboard creative sound, and a linksys ethernet card. At random times during runtime, I receive an error message like: "ddhelp has caused an error in <unknown>" etc etc. The only repeatable crash is when I try to use Windows Update. The website opens, but at about the point when the screen should display "Searching for items to install" and displaying a percentage done, the error box pops up. Can anyone help me with this error? After running the tool a window pops up with a link to Microsoft downloads with instructions to download the appropriate patch to innoculate Windows against FixBlast. I recently installed Quicken 2003 on my Windows ME PC. I tries to use the
help files and I receive an error telling me that windows help files cannot
be accessed. I then went into MS Word and it also does not display help
topics. I went to Windows help (Start/ Help) and it does not display
anything under Index. It appears as though Windows cannot get at any help
files. Does anyone have a possible solution to this?
