My most particular thanks go to Mike Maltby & Noel Paton, and as you'll

Anyway, ME users, I hate to lose u but I 've just got a brand spanking new
machine using XP. : ^ (

Many thanks... and kindest Regards...

Craig.

Craig,

Thanks for those kind words and I hope you enjoy your new PC. As you
might have guessed both Noel and myself have been using XP for some years
on our main machines but have stayed in this newsgroup to help those
running Win Me since, for me at least, I felt that there were more than
enough other people helping those running XP.

Just because you now have XP, don't become a stranger. This is the best NG
on the Net!....mainly because of the terrific folks that hang out here. It
won't take you long in the XP NG's to find out that, although there is good
info to be had, it is waaaay to formal and not nearly as much fun as this
group. Built my XP box last year and still hang out here, along with a LOT
of other XP users.
Heirloom, old and my ol' Me box is still

Why? I've been running XP since just a few weeks after Win Me was
released, initially in beta and then as the released product. I didn't
change then so see no reason to do so now for the reason I've already
given. I'll hang around here for as long as there are Win Me users
needing help and then either move to helping those running Vista or
withdraw.

Hi Craig.....

Do me a favour.....go lurk on the XP General ng for a few days, then
come back here and tell us what you think of the general tone of that
group.

I lasted about 3 days and lambasted an idiot MVP, then came back to Mike
and Noel and Mart, et al. And I was one of the last to get with it re
XP. I still have WinME behind me....and may just turn it on once I get
my router going again.

But I too think this should be a newsgroup called "movin'on up to XP,
but still need Mike & Noel".....or words to that effect, lol. Maybe we
should petition Bill Gates. 8-))))

Do we see the magic of 'Mike M' in XP newsgroups?

Hi Heather,

I don't need to hang around in the XP newsgroups to know what goes on
there. I've seen plenty of mention towards the the people there, that's just
from people who visit here... But your 3 days.. is pretty impressive, i'm
supprised you lasted that long ;^)~

Indeed... there should be a news group called "movin on up", time to brake
free, nothing can stop me.. woops, couldn't help it.

Nice person u figgs,

Regards,

Craig.

Craig,

I thought I had answered this when I said:
a) I felt that there were more than enough other people helping those
running XP
and then
b) I'll hang around here for as long as there are Win Me users needing
help and then either move to helping those running Vista or withdraw.

It's nice to be "wanted" but I'm not sure about moving to the XP groups.
I'm feeling pretty jaded having been posting in the Win Me newsgroups
since June 2000 so I am feeling inclined to wind down and return to being
a lurker but one never knows, CornedBeef may turn up again. <g>

I will admit though to posting occasionally in the XP NGs but for various
reasons not often as "Mike M" and rarely with an MVP tag.

> Getting late, (yawn)....

As it is for most of us this side of the pond.

Cheers,

Probably not - My target is to move to Vista support before ME becomes
defunct, bypassing XP pretty much altogether.
However, I won't be abandoning the ME groups for a loooong while yet!

Glad to hear you've got a worthwhile machine - have fun with it, and enjoy
it - and think of us n our old clunkers :)

Goodl Luck!

I lurk in several of the XP groups and occasionally post even though I'm
only a novice <g> but there are more than enough experts in there to help
out and besides it's just not got the family feel to it like here <g>

Microsoft may be stopping support for WinME but there are still plenty of
people using it and needing help so I think the experts in here will be
around for a good while yet.

I would like to add my thanks also.

I lurked here for a long while, gleaning lots of good info from Mike
and Noel. Mike has even responded to private email from me with some
very detailed info.

My ME machine now lives only in a VMWare virtual world, but I still
support a friend who only uses ME. She calls me often and says "How do
fix this?"

If I can't remember the exact details of the fix, a quick look in this
newsgroup shows that Mike and Noel, and in previous times, Koldbear,
have answered that particular question more times than you've had hot
dinners!

Thanks for all the great info. It made ME a pleasure for me to use, and
rewarding for me to support for my friend.

Good Luck,
Barry G.

Thanks for those kind words Barry. You may be interested to read that
whilst I do still have a PC with a celeron 400 still running Win Me it is
now only rarely turned on and most of my Win Me support is done using a
number of Win Me virtual machines that I run on Microsoft's VPC on my XP
Pro machines. Nowadays I only tend to use the real Win me PC when I need
to check out a hardware problem.

Noel and all, You echoed my thinking Noel as to going direct from ME to
Vista...or maybe considering my ME box and all for are so well set up and
prepared for anything...I'll just wait until 2009 for the new Microsoft
'server' series...(as if I could afford that!) So, as with many unsung
