Long boot rime

This is a new behaviour for this computer. It is now taking about 35-40
seconds for the login screen to appear on boot. It used to take only about
10 seconds. What could be going on?

What changes have you recently made to the system such as installing new,
or upgrading existing, programs, updating drivers and perhaps even
hardware changes?

The only thing done recently is that a new printer was installed, including
the drivers and utility software for it. That's all.

If that is the only change, my bet is that the printer software has itself
in the startup axis by default. What brand of printer did you get? If it
is a Lexmark, you need to kill the 'phone home' stuff.

It is a Versajette M300.

That's all? Sounds a hell of a lot to me and if that is the only change
then look no further, you've found the reason for your slow boot-up. Now
what you've got to do is decide how much of the junk that was installed
with the printer driver that you want being loaded each time you boot your
PC.

Look first at the utilities, these rather than the drivers are the most
likely candidates. Ask yourself, do you need (all) these utilities?

As I am sure you know, all of these utilities will still be available to
you.....you will simply have to start them manually as needed. I always
found that Me likes to be run 'lean and clean'.........

I assume you could do start> run> msconfig and look for startup
entries for your printer.
