    - krnl386.exe and kernell32.dll errors Support, Over the past week or two, I have randomly received the following error messages for krnl386.exe and kernell32.dll while using the internet (Internet Explorer). My operating system is Windows ME and I have both McAfee and Norton's running on my system and have not been able to find any known viruses or errors.     - Error 1006 Help! Am trying to establish an Internet connection on a computer. I get the message: (yellow triangle) The modem resources conflict with another hardware. Please update the configuration. Error 1006 (Maybe not exact words) I checked the IRQs and had several things on IRQ 9 - the 56k modem, some audio CODEC, and something else as well as the Holder for PCI steering. Any suggestions?     - KERNEL.32.DLL In the past few weeks I started getting error messages saying "....has caused an error in KERNEL.32.DLL". It has happened while in AOL, it happened yesterday when I was running defrag and scandisk, and others. The first part of the message usually refers to the program I am currently using or just exited. The only change I have made to the system recently was to add more memory.     - Problems after reboot (pictures) Hi, i have recently rebooted my computer. Have loaded on all the old software. I used to be able to save pics from the internet to my PC and then be able to open them in 'my pics'. My computer will now only open a few select pics. It wont and never would open ART. pics. But it now won't open some bitmaps or gifs.     - recovery disk I recently use my recovery disk to use the user recovery procedure.     - Always booting to safe mode My sister was given a computer athlon(?) with 96mb ram 6G hd, soundblaster etc. It came with windows98 loaded and WindowsME cd. The computer continued to boot to "safe mode"so I reformatted HD and loaded the ME CD. The problem still persists. I have taken the back off to make sure nothing has come loose and everything seems ok. I can get it to boot normaly if i F8 and load step by step.     - cannot access my second hard drive ATTN: Long Message :-) I was trying to be as detailed as possible. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hello: A few days ago my desktop was running Windows ME. I started having trouble with the OS and felt it was time to upgrade to XP (my laptop has had XP for about a year and I have grown to like it more than ME). I have a 80GIG Hard Drive on my desktop along with a 20GIG Hard Drive which I use to back up files. Before installing XP (Full Home version, not an upgrade) I moved all of the files I wanted to back up to the second 20 GIG Drive. The install went smooth, and before I knew it XP was up and running. After setting up a few basic settings I went to My Computer to bring some of the files over from the second drive, but to my suprise the second drive was not being listed at all. After looking around for a few minutes I found that the drive is listed under the device manager and Disk Management, but not listed in My computer, so I had no way of accessing it. Under the disk management I noticed that there was no letter assigned to the drive and I was not able to assign one either. By right-clicking on the drive the only option I had was to delete the partition. It listed the drive as Healthy and Active, but would not let me assign a letter to it. I did a rescan and a refresh but nothing came of it. I even went as far as uninstalling xp, formatting again, and re-installing ME to see if that would show it...and nothing was there. When in DOS I would try every possible drive letter and nothing showed up. What was odd though was in both XP and ME, the drive was listed under the device manager. Also, when I used FDISK, it listed the drive with all of the info. I then formatted again, put in the WIN XP CD, and click "R" for repair. To my shock (and happiness) I noticed that the drive was listed under F: (though there was no sign of that in DOS or when in the OS, I had tried F: a few times). It also listed all of my files, but gave me no way of accessing them. So I re-installed XP thinking that maybe now the files would be listed under F: But no such luck. Once again though it is listed under disk management. So where do I go from here???? I APOLOGIZE FOR SUCH A LONG MESSAGE, BUT WANTED TO BE AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. I had seen this question asked many times during my never ending Google search to find an answer, but did not see any answers....hopefully someone out there has had this problem and can let me (and others) no how to fix it.     - ME Problems In the last week, I have been experiencing multiple problems with my Me machine. I keep getting frozen screens, and usually can't even use CONT_ALT_DEL to bring up task manager--all I get is an infamous BLUE SCREEN error!     - WINDOWS/SYSTEM/AdCache Today (18 OCT 2003) I discovered unwanted advertisements located in my Winodws Millenium directory: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\AdCache - a directory I do not recall seeing before.     - State Manager problem My laptop hard disk was running constantly, even when no application was in use (system monitor showed thousands of files/sec being read and written). Unchecking statemgr in the msconfig/startup solves that problem, and operation appears normal, but I wonder if I am creating another problem down the road.     - no msconfig, no regedit Hello, I'm sending this now for the third time, as my message / request for help showed nowhere up. My friend's computer (PC) had no AV programs. After some problems he installed an AV program and it found 6 viruses (worms, BackdoorHacker, etc.) in total. Before the AV program was loaded, one could not enter the 'msconfig' utility, neither 'regedit', because the sub window containing 'msconfig' or 'regedit' respectively, remained open for 1 second only. After having all 4 versions of the Dyfica (sp?) virus get together and beat the hell out of my poor Win. ME, we needed a full reinstall of Windows to get it up and running again.     - Lost restore points w/setting in AVG Hi all - AVG 6.0 I am having a problem with losing all restore points, and my system crashing after enabling a setting in AVG 6.0 In the E-mail section of the AVG there is a selection for OE 5 Plugin, and when I select this when Windows is loaded, I have a problem with opening the Delete Box. It just hangs, and I have to shut down using the power on/off button. Then, when I start up again, Windows will load but hangs at the desktop, and when I try to shut down with ctrl-alt-del the system goes to the blue screen and I have to shut down using the power on/off button. I started the system up in Safe Mode, and tried to do a System Restore, but, there were no restore points, not even the one I set yesterday afternoon, and even though the disable restore was not checked. I was able to open the AVG Control Center and uncheck the OE 5 Plugin and then reboot. The system came up find and all is working ok now, but, still no restore points, even though I have set a new one since the reboot, it is not there now. I would truly appreciate it if someone could provide me with a website or KB information that might address this problem so that I can perhaps have a better idea of where and how to troubleshoot this problem, or find a resolution.     - Err Msg: Shell32.DLL Miscrosoft Internet Explorer seemed to not recognize an internet connection when there was one. So, I tried many things, but I finally decided to try uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Well, after I did that and tried restarting my computer again, it tells me that "a required .DLL file, C:\Windows\System\Shell32.DLL, was not found." It will not load all of the way. I have Windows ME but have found a code to try typing in in the Command Prompt Only. OS lost afterwards! 2 weeks ago I updated the critical updates from microsoft site (including IE updates). upon restart I got errors and the IE kept hanging, so I went to Control Panel and deleted the new application downloads including the new IE. Upon reboot this time the system said there were errors and was going to reconfigure or something to a previous good configuration. Now when I start my computer, the Windows ME screen comes on and looks like everything loads properly, but I get to the windows interface and the blue background comes up on the screen but nothing else is shown. When I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL only one program is listed (unlike before when I remember lots listed). I can't do anything else, just a blue background on the screen and nothing else, and the only function available is the keyboard shortcut for CTRL+ALT+DEL. How can I recover from this disaster? Help please!! I also thought I could just upgrade to XP professional, but when I put the CD into the CD drive and turned on my computer it does the same thing and goes to the blue screen. Is it possible to do something during start-up and just have it boot from CD and upgrad to XP so I don't lose any of my data that's already in my computer?     - compressing files I have created a web project in microsoft greetings. When I try to email it Nortons Antivirus comes up with a message that it recommends that I compress the file. I went into windows help to find out how to compress a file and it suggested that I go into My Computer and select the drive I want to create a compression folder in.     - May Be OT Problem, But I'm Going To Try Anyway. (I'm only posting this after a number of unsatisfactory emails from NTI support; those kind of emails that treat users like idiots and don't address the questions asked.) I'm running Windows ME with NTI CD Maker Software. Since I began using this burning software, it has been bullet proof. Over the past year, they've had several updates, all of which have worked without problems. And now, their latest update gives me this message after install and won't run. 'The CDMkr32.exe is linked to missing export SKINDIALOG.DLL:SetSkinIniFile.' First, the file mentioned above is not 'missing'; it is in the folder where it should be. NTI sent me another copy of the file, but this didn't change anything. This file is also present (same version) in all previous versions of NTI CD Maker. I've even tried installing the software in C:, rather than the Program Files Folder, but the second update doesn't give an option as to where you want it installed and goes ahead and uninstalls the program in C: and puts it in Program Files, so, that didn't work. I've gone through several install cycles, including disabling all running programs. My suspicion is that it is an NTI problem, (given how reluctant software producers are to admit they have a problem) but if anyone has an idea that the problem could reside in Windows, or my system, I'm wide open for suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to read this rather long post, but I would really appreciate any suggestions, no matter how wild they may be.     - Hibernation My computer doesn't seem to want to go into hibernation. The screen goes black but the computer itself never completely goes off. I think it might have something to do with my mouse. It's a "IntelliMouse" from Microsoft. The red light stays on, as does the computer. When you move the mouse and the screen reapears from black, the cursor is very slow and whatever programs you click load slow as well. I can't shut down or restart my computer anymore either. The screen makes the noise it has always done when clicking restart/shut down, but then the cursor and computer freeze when it gets to the light blue screen, and you have to just turn off the monitor. Don't enter a password and then click enter and you should hopefully never see
the screen again.

On the Configuration tab, select "Windows Logon" in the Primary Network Logon
box, and then click OK.
If you are asked for a password on the next restart, press the [ENTER] key or
click "OK". DO NOT click "Cancel"
