My friends have a computer that has started locking up.
They have asked me to log onto the newsgroup to seek
answers since they can't.

The system locks up at different times but it does
consistently lock up. They are using Windows ME. Is the
problem with ME or something else?

I can give more info if needed but I just don't know
where to start.

Thanks so much for your help!

The problem is most likely a hardware problem, usually I find that faulty
memory modules (RAM) or a bad power supply or a dirty or failed cooling fan
in the system is to blame.
