Silj, I have a question about "HijackThis":
HijackThis found 15 items on my computer. They all look legitimate to me,
but it tells me to consult an expert on what to delete, if necessary.
How do I accomplish that? By that I mean, what do I do to let you or
whoever the expert may be, see the troublesome items?

Harry, somewhat blindsided.

Hi Harry,
First, How-To: Compile an entire HijackThis log.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
MVP Mike Burgess recommends that you post your log at Spyware Info.
They're as capable as any, though you may elect to post your log elsewhere.
I recommend these Forum for expert analysis too.
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showforum=32
http://computercops.biz/forum67.html

Note that all of the above Forums require registration, an annoyance but
you'll get expert help there.

Please post the URL of the Forum in which you posted your log so that I can
have a peek.

Silj, I don't think that I am going to go through with this.
I am not familiar with the URL-business.
Do I really need this program?
I seem to be just fine without it.
What are your thoughts on this?

Harry.

No Harry,
Unless you've been truly Hijacked, you don't.
If you're machine is behaving normally don't bother...

Silj, I don't think that anything at all is wrong, meaning I have no need
for anything either. My machine works as cleanly and smoothly as never
before.
With all the necessary protective software installed and working, thanks to
this NG, it is 'smooth sailing', as they say. I plan to do everything in my
power to keep it that way. Should I ever get in trouble for some reason, I
know exactly where to turn for help.
I am so very greatful for the most generous assistance I've found so far.
Thank you, Heirloom and all the others, dear to me and us.

Harry.

Microsoft appear to give out MVP awards to anyone nowadays and to many who
IMHO do not deserve the award. This however is something I don't want to
comment on further in this or any other thread other than to say that it is
Microsoft's award and thus they can use or abuse it in whatever way they want.

Yes, well, I can understand that, Mike. Also that it'd could become some
kind of war between ngs devoted to different OSes.

But that's been done, hasn't it (LOL!). Skimming those Acorn crossposts
reminded me of being back in school, going to war with the school half a
mile down the road (and in which nothing ever happened! Truly a tale told by
an idiot!).

I take it that you have "resident net-cops" in the XP groups. The antivirus
ngs are still harrassing me about top posting......but I give it right back

Perhaps they need a certain "redhead" (no.....not from Oz).....to sort them
out. Hmmm!! I shall have to lurk a bit. <G>

XP General's just awful for it, Figgs. The AV groups are good natured by
comparison. Way I figure it is you get wierd but generally smart people in
the AV groups. In XP General you get the narrow-minded conformists and - as
Kurt(rail) has it - Microsycophants (mostly MVPs, forever accusing people of
being criminals for losing their CD key).

interests

Not exactly a good way to run an MS help group then, is it.

At least in the AV groups, if they give it out, they get it back.....in
spades!! And no one stays mad forever. Just a day or two, grin. But on
the other hand, most of us (the regulars) have known each other for
eons......so we have a long history of *teasing* each other.

Off for a chocolate iced donut.......yum......Figgs
