DON'T attempt to delete the file that shows as infected (yet) - doing so may
prevent any use of System restore to get you out of the hole you're in!
First try this
From a DOS prompt (either in Safe Mode, or from a floppy disk DOS boot),
type
SCANREG /FIX
Windows will reboot (if you used a floppy boot, remove the floppy as it does
so!) and repair the registry.
See if that works
If not,
From a DOS prompt again, type
SCANREG /RESTORE
Pick a date hopefully prior to the onset of your problems, and follow the
instructions - windows will restore the registry to that time on the reboot,
and hopefully cure your problem
If that doesn't work, then use System Restore to go back to a time when the
system worked - NOTE: once you've done this, either immediately revert the
restore if it doesn't cure the problem, or run an updated virus scanner if
it does, as there's a chance that the virus will have been brought out of
cold-storage by the restore.
post back with your results. (and which AV are you using?)
