    - Slow IE 5.5 Recently, without any notice or warning, my IE 5.5 (running on WinME) has become as slow as a sloth. If I type something in a form or address bar, it takes forever for a single letter to come out. I downloaded IE 5.5 service pack 2 from MicroSquish, and successfully installed it, but it didn't help at all. NO OTHER PROGRAM HAS THIS PROBLEM!!! While I'm on the net, I can use ANY other program (Eudora, Free Agent, Word, etc, etc, etc), with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!! I've cleaned up my temp files, cookies, etc, run scandisk and defrag, run thorough anti-virus scans, and rebooted just before hooking up to the net (i.e., IE is the 2nd thing that comes up after the connection is made). I tried download IE 6.0, but I kept getting interrupted (this was at 3 in the morning!), and when it finally completed after numerous attempts, it failed to setup properly!     - Can't delete a file Greetings. I was transfering data files from my old computer to my new one via zip drive. When I loaded it, there was apparently only one file, a doc file, that lost its extention in the process. I want to delete it, but can't; every time I try to do so, I get this message: "Error Deleting File or Folder. Cannot delete file: Windows in unable to find the file. This item might have already been deleted or moved. Press F5 to refresh the view of this folder". I press F5. but nothing happened. I tried to do everything I could to delete it, but nothing works. I cannot even take it out of it's folder. I am able to put this folder in the Redycling Bin; however, when I then right click on it to empty it, I get a message stating "Cannot delete ***(the file).     - recycle bin not showing deleted items My recycle bin has 49 items in it when I press (emty recycle bin) nothing is showing in the list and it sais that there are no listings in the recycle bin. When deleting anything it always asks "are you sure you want to delete?" I press yes but no showings in the recycle bin.. I searched the news groups but was unable to find an aswer.     - MDAC 2.8 = problems I installed MDAC 2.8 (because I couldn't get WU to stop trying to patch 2.1) and ever since I have had some small problems with secure web sites; problems shutting down and booting up (keep having 8192 bytes lost fragment).     - winme and cmdninst Hi, I am new to ME. I changed my video adapter and when rebooting my firewall(kerio) was asking permision for cmdninst to access ip 81.52.249.46 port 80. I looked this IP up and see that it is owned by the RIPE Network. I have alway blocked this IP range in my spam filters for email as it is notorius for spam origins.     - Conflict: Classical Solitaire & NSW 2004 Pro I have just installed Norton SystemWorks 2004 Professional and Norton Personal Firewall 2004 over their corresponding 2003 versions (according to Symantec's instructions). All seemingly went well. However, I find that ME's Classical Solitaire no longer functions (other games seem OK). Using Ctrl+Alt+Delete to remove the program "Csinject" allows Classical Solitaire to function normally. Although Csinject existed in previous NSW versions, this problem did not occur.     - Address Book I was attempting to use the address book that comes with the accesories group under windows ME. to do a mail merge. I attempted that manuever and was told I could not use it to do a mail merge. When I cancelled the transaction, my entire "contacts" directory was somehow lost. When I quit word and simply went to the address book, it showed an old contacts list which I was sure I deleted.     - SEARCH- For Files and Folders Windows ME. There were several postings (including mine) from people for whom Start -Search- For Files and Folders does not work. I further found that you can go to ANY folder in Windows Explorer (Does not have to be MY Documents) , press F3 and Search dialogue comes on. You can also go to MyComputer ( icon on Desktop) - press F3 and the search dialogue comes on (and works). The only place F3 does not work for me is Desktop. Question to the experts: what stops it from working from Start- Search? Note : Several responses suggested to tick Tweak UI - Desktop- Search Results. It does not work for me. Please try again later"; my NAVP detects nothing. Please let me know.     - Help with Service Pack Install Please I have a 450Mhz desktop running ME. Windows update tells me I need to install several critical updates including SP-1.     - automatic windows update I am running windows ME and microsoft is sending me to their update site when i connect to internet. due to all the virus Emails I am getting I want to personalize the update site settings but am unable to do so. I have followed all the instructions to do this; changed internet options in miscellaneuos to enable and have deleted the oWindowsupdate file that was in C\windows\ApplicationData\microsoft\Internet etc. however can still not personalize the update site. i want to be able to see what has been installed and what there is to install and make my own choices.     - URGENT : Recycle Bin Problem Hi there, can someone please help with a Recycle Bin problem ? The problem is that when I send something to the Recycle Bin (as I always have done), when I then look in the "Recucle Bin" either using Windows Explorer or the Recycle Bin Icon on the Desktop nothing is there ! The Recycle Bin Icon shows that there IS something in the bin (i.e. "litter" is shown in it). On the "Properties" for Recycle Bin I have the "Display delete confirmation dialog" ticked. Windows explorer sees file in all the other location as normal. I have not altered anything lately but when I deleted by accident a file last night I realised I could not retrieve it in the usual way. I have been emptying the recycle bin from the Desktop icon, so I do not know how long this problem has been there. I really need to retrieve the file, so I dare not empty the recycle bin now !     - Restore file infected I have been plagued with that W32/Swen.A@mm virus, and Norton's can only quarantine the infected files. One of the quarantined files is C:\-RESTORE\temp\A0000165.cpy. Does the word, temp, mean that it is just a temporary file and not my REAL Restore file. I have disconnected the Restore function, but eventually, I would like to have that program available. I was interested that Norton's showed the words "you are still infected" even tho the files are quarantine. I guess I just wait until a solution is found to Repair.     - ME locking up at shutdown Recently upgraded video card without any problems. System works find and video card functioning as expected. Only problem is whenever I shut down ME. Monitor goes to black screen (no not get It is Safe to shut down your computer) and box hangs up (fan continues to run). Have to disconnec power to turn set off.     - Restart Windows in DOS...? I'm using Win ME upgrade from WIN 98. I'm wanting to format drive c, clean wipe. Ive done it no problem with Win 98 before ,by just restarting computer in DOS.     - Blue screen error messages and scandisk troubles too When trying to scan hard drive today with Norton's Anti Virus 2002, the file numbers scanned quit changing and I now get a blue screen after about a minute. It says WINDOWS "Error 0E:0028:C00584D5". Doesn't say fatal error or list any vdx or whatever. Also, I noticed I now can't run scandisk except from a floppy, which complete ok eventually on the thorough test. I have uninstalled and reinstalled NAV, and problem is still there. What's going on?     - Security Update Having a problem with the Security Updates for Windows ME. I downloaded the Security Update -- the one that needed to be installed by itself. The file downloaded properly but when the system restarted, it gave a message that it didn't really install. I can't remember the exact message. I did it again and I got the same message.     - Kernel processor usage always at 100% My kernel processor usage is always at 100%. The system is always in need of a reboot after running for about an hour. At first I thought the problem was RAM but I've got 640MB. I've rebooted in selective mode by using the msconfig boot options and when I run the system monitor after I come up the kernel usage is around 10%. Anyone have any ideas what is killing my system?     - Aaaargh! About every two minutes my computer goes off and tries to read the CD-ROM drive. If a CD is in the drive, it brings it up. Otherwise, everything hangs for a few seconds while the empty CD drive spins. If I take the CD out and reboot, I can hear it accessing the drive every two minutes or so, but it doesn't hang. Whenever I try to use any startup items or click on items

and GWS.dll that says it cant be found and I should
restart computer.. also the kernel32.dll error will appear
in some programs.. anyone with any assistance it would be
greatly appreciated. The computer is a firehouse computer
and I really need to get this problem solved if possible..

Kernel32.dll errors are most often associated with outdated video
display
drivers. Try visiting the manufacturer's website to see if they offer
updated drivers for your video display card. If not, try reducing

acceleration and see if that fixes it:

1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the Desktop, then click
Properties.
The System Properties dialog box appears.
2. Click the Performance tab.
3. Under Advanced Settings, click Graphics. The Advanced Graphics
Settings
dialog box appears.
4. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to the left one or two
positions.
5. Click OK, then restart the system when prompted.
