There are two schools of thought on this error<g>
1) the cause is due to a driver problem - probably the Display drivers.
Remove them from Device Manager while in Safe Mode, reboot to Normal Mode,
and see if that helps.
2) The error is due to a corrupted swapfile. Boot to DOS using a Startup
floppy, and delete the file Win386.swp in the C:\ directory, and/or the
C:\Windows folder. Run ScanDisk, and then reboot to Widows. Run Defrag as
soon as you can and see if that helps.
