robert,

The error may stem from a popup blocker, damaged IE
files/installation, damaged java files, or spy |crudware.

If you don't have a popup blocker, scan the system for the existence
of said crudware at these 2 sites :

http://www.auditmypc.com/patch-management-software/patch-management-software-.asp

http://www.pestscan.com/

IF crudware is present, go here :

The Parasite Fight - Quick Fix Protocol
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

If crudware is not the issue, install the latest Sun java package
from here :
Download J2SE JRE
http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=j2re-1.4.2_05-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg
Save it to your Hard Drive. Close IE. Install it with your antivirus
(AV) program temporarily disabled. After installation is complete,
reenable your AV .

Advise to do a Repair of IE if crudware was the issue and PRIOR to
installing the Sun java package.

It's best to do the above in Safe Mode.
