    - Unhandled Exception c0000005 Here is the message I receive at start up. 'Unhandled Exception c0000005 At address 100016b8' then when I close that message the following message is received 'Pgmonitr has caused an error PGSDK.DLL If you continue to experience problems try restarting your computer' These messages have only started occurring over the last week or so.     - error : OE : 0187 : BFF77328 On occasion, when booting, I get this error ; Windows could not finish loading Press any key to continue Pressing ctrl-alt-del will restart your computer and you will lose any unsaved information. error : OE : 0187 : BFF77328 ok, pressing any key gets no response, pressing ctrl-alt- del restarts the computer in safe mode and trouble shooter loads, but I cant find anything in the trouble shooter or any similar error messages on any forum.     - Windows\Temp I have so many files in Windows\Temp. Can I safely remove them ? Some of the are: .TMP, .log, .MTX, .htm, .org.text, WMF , php, .xml. Then there is: IMGDLL 16.DLL, IMGDLL32.DLL, 1cFleady.dll, mmjbbc.dll, mmjbUpdt.exe, ProcessLog.txt, setup_wm.exe, ioDriverInstall.exe, & DRIVEUP_VSIF I'm afraid to delete anything that I shouldn't since I am a novice.     - sound in dos window trying to play a few old dos games in winme but sound works only in one session if even. once the dos window is shutdown and i at a later time try playing the game again the sound card cant be detected.     - Update problem & kernel error I have a client running Windows ME who gets an error while online, "iexplorer.exe has caused an error in the kernel32.dll" I thought one way of resolving this was to upgrade his explorer to the latest version ( he is using 5.5. Unfortunatly, every time i try to upgrade explorer it does the download but fails to install. I am able to install other updates only the Explorer one won't. Any suggestions would be very welcome.     - installing MILLENNIUM EDITION PROBLEM on installing the me windows a message comes up to say that an upgraded version of the me installation is required. it then stops. but however i can run the trainer ie interactive teaching section of it. also i was told to go to msdos and enter C:\windows> the type ren win. com win.bak then runsetup again. i have tried this, but it doesn't work. When I restart the computer, I get error Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2 %1:%2. Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting. Windows may not start or run properly. I am able to reboot, but when I go back to windows update site, it says I still need the critical updates. I try again and again, but am never able to get them... I am able to update my antivirus software and other programs, just not Me critical updates. I found the Microsoft web page that says the solution is to find the Wininit.ini and rename to Wininit.old and restart. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;283069 I do not have Wininit.ini.     - Device Manager For as few days now, Device Manager when opened has started the dial up connection, today I let it complete the connection & then clicked ok, it doesn't now want to connect to the internet any more, I wonder what it downloaded, whatever it was it took less than a second.     - WindowsME constantly crashing: details Hi Firstly, i am very sorry for this lengthy posting but I dont think anyone will be able to help without considerable detail. A friend has asked me to reinstall Windows ME on his computer following someone trying to put a copy of Windows XP on it. Obviously that was never going to work because of the protection Microsoft have put in XP (use on one computer only). So this totaly messed up his computer. Previously his Windows ME worked OK. So he asked me to re-install his Windows ME. I have installed ME many times without any problems. This time I have a major problem with Windows ME constantly crashing on his computer. I have done a "clean" install after re-formating the C: drive, to get rid of all the XP etc. Sometimes Windows ME works OK for several hours. Other times I get a whole variety of error messages and sometimes it locks on the destop after a short period of inactivity. Following a restart and scandisk it may restart OK but on occasions it wont even start in Safe Mode. I have to use my start up disk and use scanreg /restore and once I am back in Windows sometimes I then need to use Restore (fortunately I have set up several handy restore points). Basically it is very very unstable. I have read as much as i can find on the Microsoft Database and I have tried reducing hardware acceleration. Also I have tested my memory with DocMemory which tests OK. I have re-installed it several times. The problems occur immediately after installation. I have d/l and installed all the microsoft updates. I have very little running on startup.     - Win Media Player 9 and Codecs I downloaded a movie with an .avi extension and tried to play it in WMP9. It started looking for codecs and came back in error stating: "Class not registered" I sought help here and got a response with two links to go to that should help. I tried the first link which told me to identify the codec that's missing. This info isn't listed anywhere in my error box. So I tried the second link. O.K.....I did what I was told to do and everything listed at the site I was directed to. The second link said to reinstall WMP9 over existing one.     - Not being able to open attachments I am running windows ME on a laptop that has OE 6.0 and have been unable to open attachements on a regular basis. Some are opened OK and others show OE message that it has not allowed the opening of the attachment due the possbility of a virus. When I forward the e-mail to my desktop (running WIndows 95 and OE 5.5 I am able to open the attachments, usually .doc or .eml files). How can I change the settings on OE 6.0 to give me more flexibility to open these types of attachments?     - System Restore Failed On a couple of occasions recently I have tried to use System Restore when three or four restore points are shown to be available. The restores have failed with the message "System restore failed to restore your computer. Please try another Restore point" (wording may not be exact). Choosing a different point had no effect. I have Norton System Utilities which has a known problem in this area, but I have checked the Norton feature which causes the problem and it was disabled anyway (Disk Health sensor in System Doctor).     - System Resource or Windows Protection Error Since MSN automatically downloaded 8.5 I have been having intermittant erors with Windows ME. I either get msg that there are crirically low resources or a Windows protection error. In case of resources critically low cannot select "ignore" have to select "close". System then displays msg that a program has caused an error in "DIBENG.DLL" which I close out of. Sometimes system works normal but many times Instant Messenger aborts and system does not respond normally and must restart computer to either regain IM or system functionality.     - Cookie File Installed new harddrive, using Partition Magic so I can boot from either drive until after I get the new one set up with everything.     - not sure what the problem is I have Internet Explorer 6 on my computer. It is difficult to connect if my computer has been inactive for a while. You have to either shut down the computer and wait a minute or two and then try to connect or restart the computer. Then you can keep an internet connection for about 30 minutes sometimes more sometimes less. I have had my phone lines tested and they are fine. I have called my ISP for tech support and they say it's not them with the problem maybe its me. What would be causing this? I can only get a good fast internet connection if I shut down or restart my computer. Then if it slows down and bumps me off if I restart/shut down my computer and reconnect I get a good connection.
