When i try to do anything to a few mp3 files on my
desktop, ie. rename, delete or move, i get the following
error:

Cannot (rename, delete, move) file: Windows is unable to
find the file. This item might have already been deleted
or moved. Press F5 to refresh the view of this folder.

When i refresh, nothing happens.
I'd be grateful if anyone could help me with this.

Try to rename these in Safe Mode. If that doesn't work, try in DOS from a
floppy boot disk. If you're not familiar with DOS, you'll find things a bit
different, but you should be able to recognize folders and files. At the c:\
prompt, browse to the correct DOS folder with the cd (change directory)
command, i.e. cd mydocu~1\mymusi~1 and then ren oldfil~1.mp3 to newname.mp3
... using less than eight characters. Use the command "rename" or "ren" ...
both will work. To back out of folders to get back to the c:\ prompt, type
cd.. and include the two dots.

This can occasionally happen if the filename contains illegal characters
As Tony says, try deleting from DOS - but be aware that the filename may
look different there!post back if you have problems, and I'll try and
explain.
