    - Startup Problem - further When I leave my computer for a long period of time I get the following error: "While initializing device VMPOLL Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer. System halted." Just a note: This is happening on Windows ME, and the system has worked fine in the past so there should be no hardware incompadibilities or anything to that effect.     - startup problem When I boot my laptop running Windows ME, it does nothing but go to a screen saying: "Microsoft Windows Millennium Startup Menu" =========== The problem is - there are no options on this startup menu, and the computer will do nothing but this when the computer loads up. I can't get into Windows ME at all. Has anybody got any suggestions as to the cause of this problem, and any possible resolutions.     - Boot Up error message Since I installed AV program (McAfee), during boot-up the screen shows a message (white on black) "WINDOES COULD NOT UPGRADE THE FILE %1 from %2 %1 %2". This lines repeats about 10 times, then says "WINDOWS COULD NOT UPGRADE 1 OR MORE SYSTEM FILES BEFORE STARTING. WINDOWS MAY NOT START OR RUN PROPERLY. PRESS ANY KEY to continue...." I press a key, then it says "completed upgrade" & finishes booting just as it used to & all looks well. What did I do wrong? What do I do now? (I have other questins, but first things first!)     - Install Shield Update Services agent My McAfee Personal Firewall has Install Shield Update Services agent listed as Blocked. Install Shield Download Manager and Service Scheduler are not blocked. After doing some research, seems like maybe I should allow it access as looks like Microsoft uses it for Windows updates. ?Should I unblock it? Have WinMe, IE6.0, McAfee Personal Firewall and VirusScan online, Earthlink. Total Access 2004, no viruses found on scan, Windows updates up-to-date.     - Launching Internet Explorer 6 Trying to Launch Internet Explorer 6 appears to not work. But - when I open the recycle bin - something triggers IE to then finally start up. Using Windows Me and IE6 SP1 This doesn't happen the first time I try to load IE - only after closing and trying to re-open.     - Windows boots to desktop and then only hourglass Windows ME boots to desktop and then hourglass mouse cursor for 3min, after that the mouse click doesn't open or engage anything on the desktop. If I go down to the taskbar the hourglass comes back. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't bring up the Task Manager window either. The only thing I can do is shut it down (and turn it back on). I did so and It didn't help, in fact I caused me to have more problems than I had before.     - Gettng nowhere Getting an "high risk" attack from 127.0.0.1 coming from my own network!! I dont have a network, this PC is alone by itself. Of course imposssible to get anything from Symantec.     - hlpcfb.dll error message in explorer I was surfing the internet when a pop-up ad came up, but the browser was blank. I right clicked to close and it had a message that said something like the browser is busy, do you still want to close? and i did click yes. the computer froze at that point. I rebooted, and then got the error message from explorer: explorer has found an error in hlpcfb.dll. explorer will now close. It would not allow me to boot up and run any programs. I tried booting in safe mode which worked, but then I tried using system restore and it said an error was found when trying to run the system restore exe file. I booted into dos and deleted the hlpcfb.dll file and rebooted. that at least got me to boot up so I could work in normal mode. I ran my spybot software, and am running my virus checker now.     - Slow moving screen and memory problems I have a portable with Win ME. After nearly three years of use, and downloading numerous apps and deleting them, I find the screen is slow to work. Recently three large Word documents brought the machine to a halt through lack of sufficient memory to do any saving. I have tried freebie registry cleaners, but they seem to take out too much and I have to use restore to get the machine to work again. Any ideas how I can release memory? Thanks for any help. While on MS internet Explorer I get a message " MS

I am using Windows ME
I tried installing all upgrades, patches and clearing the
temp folders.
