I have been trying to download updates but the dowload
never completes the process. I let the computer run over
night and it still did not complete the process.

Make sure you have ActiveX enabled in you IE browser:

Tools/ InternetOptions/ Security/ (Internet)CustomLevel ..and then make
sure that none of the ActiveX components are "disabled".

Anthony,

Open either Windows or Internet Explorer and type or copy&paste this
into the Address bar : %windir%\windows update.log
Press Enter or click Go. The log should open in Notepad. Scroll down to
the last date that you tried to obtain updates. Locate the error code
associated with this date. Now go here :
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Click on Edit, Find, and either type or paste the error into the
Find what box, click Find Next. Try the suggested resolution(s) for the
error code that you located in the update.log.

NOTE: If you're using the AOL browser the updates will not install.
Suggest signing on to AOL, minimize it, then either click the Windows
Update icon on the Start Menu or open Internet Explorer, click Tool,
Windows Update. TEMPORARILY disable your antivirus program prior to
accessing Windows Update, while downloading, or installing
updates/patches. Reenable it after the installation and any required
rebooting.
