    - click and freeze I've been having a problem when opening folders,items in the task bar, or just opening applications (doesn't matter which app.) from the desktop. Whenever I click to open something up, the screen would freeze and become not responsive for about 30 seconds, then it would either open or close the application after the 30 second period. While frozen the mouse cursor is able to move but the screen does not respond to the clicks for that 30 second delay or fozen period. I checked for spyware, highjackers and viruses with a clean bill of health. I also deleted all cookies and everything in the TIF folder.     - msdos popups on startup when I start up windows ME, several msdos windows pop up, having tried to run several .exe files. Rundll32 comes up 3 times, the others are tosmem and ati2cwxx. In the windows, it says "This program cannot be run in DOS mode". I was infected with a virus called W32/Dupator in the last couple of days, and these popups started at that time.     - INSTALLING ME PROBLEM Please help. I tried to change the cd drive to a different one because the one on the pc wasn't reading well. When I changed it, I didn't have the correct software so it didn't work. Then, I tried to install the old one back on, but I don't have the software that came with it anymore. I thought that reformatting the C drive might help but it didn't. Now I can't install ME because it cannot read ME from the CD drive. I don't know what else to do. HELP! thanks.     - Weird message on startup Every time I reboot I get the same little window stating that There is insufficient memory to perform the requested task (or something to that effect). I close the window and keep going fine. However, since this window does not allow me to verify anything (as far as the message and what program is trying to run) I have no idea of 1)what is causing this and 2)How to get rid of the message.     - File folder opening problem When I double click on any folder, the "open with" menu comes up. When I check the open sequence by right clicking on any folder, it shows 2 "open" options plus explore. The first open links to 'open with' and the second open does the normal thing and opens the file folder. The file associations show an open and explore option for file folders, not 2 open options. Default restore does not help probably because the normal associations are there plus the one extra 'open' that sits on top of the right click menu. How can I edit out the offending 'open'?     - Norton AntiVirus 2004 Problem I recently had McAfee AntiVirus but the signatures expired. I switched to Norton AntiVirus 2004 but have been having multiple of problems. First, setup completed successfully but I could not run a Manual Virus Scan. AutoProtect, however, would load. Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now Norton AntiVirus 2004 Autoprotect will not work. I did a virus scan using Symantec's website and no viruses were found. Any help would be appreciated.     - cluttered desktop My desktop is cluttered with icons. Would it be less stressful on my system if I created folders on my toolbar and moved programs to a designated folder. ie I created a folder called 'security programs' and moved all my security related links(9) to this folder. I created other folders and did the same. I vaguely remember that desktop icons take up extra memory. If I'm incorrect please advise. If it has no significant differerence then I'll go back to my original desktop.     - REPOST: need help Please!!! I have a ScanOffix Pro InnoScan MAG DTS-6060 Scanner. I haven't used it in a couple months and today I was trying to scan something and all I got were these lines. It would not scan my picture. It would show the square outline of where the picture was supposed to be and a faint outline of the person in the picture but the rest was all these lines. I tried scanning in black and white and got black and white lines. I just kept trying to scan and everytime I hit "Preview" it would come up a different pattern of lines and squares. It has never done this before. I uninstalled it then reinstalled it but it didn't help. It has two lights on the front and orange one and a green one the orange stays on constantly I think its the power light but the green one only comes on when you are scanning something. Well now it will start to scan (you can hear it and see the internal light start to move up) then in the middle of trying to scan all the lights both internal and external go off and then come back on but it can't scan. Maybe one out of every six times you try to scan it will actually do a full scan but all you get are teh lines that cover the entire page they are all different colors like a rainbow but you cant see anything as there are no spaces in between the lines. I scanned a photo with it a couple months ago and it looked perfect. Well I decided to take apart the scanner and see if there was anything wrong internally. I just cleaned off the glass both inside and out and then I checked the belt and it is really tight and hard to move. I figure it might be the motor not allowing the belt to turn.     - Explorer has caused an error in <unknown> Running WinME (OEM) on a Compaq Presario. Get "Explorer has caused an error in <unknown>" as soon as desktop appears after boot. Don't know what triggered this (helping a friend debug this) but the error keeps coming up repeatedly if I close the error dialog. I tried reinstall by booting from startup disk and running setup from Windows/options/cabs but the error is still there after reinstall. I tried doing windows update but get "IE has caused an error in <unknown>". Netscape says it couldn't open a socket. However I do have a good tcp/ip connection, I can ping my Linksys router with no problem and got IP address from DHCP server. So bottom line is I'm stuck with IE 5.x which won't work and since windows update is based on IE I can't bring down IE 6. What puzzles me is that I thought the reinstall would replace broken/missing files but I still get the same desktop and errors after the reinstall.     - Scandisk will not complete Can someone offer any suggestions on what I may need to do to get scandisk to complete. Have tried to run from Safemode, did not complete. I have unchecked all items from Startup from within Applications/System Tools/System Information/Software Environment/Startup Program. Then Tools>System configuration Utility>Startup tab.
