I notice that this new version picks up many KB**.log files. I am
reluctant to run the cleaner (for applications) until I know what all
these KB log files relate to. The earlier version of CC did not pick
these files.

Do you know what these log files are and is it safe to remove them
(since in the application cleaning mode there is no option to back them up)?

Thanks,
Richard

Just want to state here and now that I have NEVER liked or trusted Crap
Cleaner and so far, nothing new has come out to change my mind. I
frankly think it could be dangerous in the wrong hands (hmmm, the
Initials H and W come to mind.....bwa ha ha!!)

But that is just my opinion and yes, I have tried it out twice and don't
trust it. Period!!

The KB*.log files are the log files created when installing the hotfix
with that KB number. These log files are mainly used to establish why a
particular hotfix or patch did not install correctly.

Let me re-word that and hopefully this time make more sense. The KB log
files are used IF the hotfix or patch with the same number did not install
correctly as they should contain information allowing the user to
establish the cause of the problem including error codes, etc.

Thanks, Mike, for explaining what those cryptic files are.

I haven't had any problem with it on dozens of machines and I use both
the registry issues and the clean up. I do make sure that I only use
Crap Cleaner for cleaning after a fresh boot up, though.

The built in clean up of XP does not do a thorough clean up, neither
does crap cleaner so I also use SystemSuite5 to clean up what crap
cleaner and XP haven't found.

Again, I have used it on dozens of computers with no adverse affects.
What "issues" are you talking about, the ones you read about on some
Urban Legends web site?

I've got 80 year old feet on a frame half that age so the image resembles my

Possibly you could cross-stitch that image, just for kicks <LOL>

Under Applications, I only have Saved Form Information not ticked, the
same for Windows along with none of the Advanced list ticked. I also put
cookies in the don't remove pane that I don't want removed. I always
back up any registry issues that I remove.

In addition to CCleaner, I use SystemSuite5's (formerly Ontrack)
registry fixer and only remove the ones that SystemSuite5 recommends.
SystemSuite does its own backup without user intervention. After an
install of XP SP2 and Office 2000, I literally remove HUNDREDS of
registry entries. I also use its registry defrag. Note, I only use these
two apps right after a reboot.

I have never, ever, had a problem due to using these two apps and it
does speed up the computer, regardless of the false information out
there that XP's registry should be just left alone.
