    - Enable Caller ID How can I enable caller ID feature of my Modem. I have tried different programs (IVM, Bitware, Phone Tray) but no one is displaying this. Though the regular phone attached to modem displays this. Does my modem supports this? for this question I have extracted the following from modem's manual: ____________________________________ command= +VCID=n default= 0 description= Caller ID Selection This command controls the reporting and presentation of data in the ICLID (Incoming Call Line ID) data format used by the Caller ID services in the United States and Canada. At a minimum, the data sent to the DCE includes the date, time, and the caller's telephone number. Caller ID information is sent to the DTE during the first and second ring signals when the modem is in voice, data, or fax mode. n = 0 Disables Caller ID n = 1 Enables Caller ID with formatted presentation to the DTE. The modem presents the data items in a <Tag><Value> pair format. The expected pairs are data, time, caller code (phone number), and name. n = 2 Enables Caller ID with unformatted presentation to the DTE. The modem presents the entire packet of information, excluding the leading U's, in ASCII-printable hex numbers. NOTE: If S0=1 (auto-answer mode) and Caller ID is enabled in data modem mode, then the modem answers only after the second ring signal. ________________________________________ Which makes me believe it does supports Caller ID.     - Win9x OS and Antiviral Software?? Anyone know of any antiviral software that will run on Win9x operating systems with 128mb RAM and a 500 GHz or less Processor? Increasing the RAM on these systems is usless because Win9x systems cannot utilize more than 128 MB. I've done clean installs of the Win9x Operating Systems and all is well until I install the latest versions of Norton or Mcafee antiviral software. The system slows down to an unacceptable crawl. I know that there is other antiviral software out there; I'm looking for one that's not so intrusive and will run on older systems. Any feedback on this matter will be greatly appreciated.     - Windows ME setup error When I try to install Windows Me Upgrade from my CD I get to a 10% complete of copying files and get the following message. SU0325 Windows Millennium setup cannot continue. This issue can be caused by a corrupted .cab file that has been copied to the hard disk. This corruption can be caused by a virus or by failing hardware, but is most likely to be caused by a scratched, dirty, or damaged CD-ROM. I have updated Norton and ran my virus check and it looks clean, I see no hardware problems that are evident. I have tried to clean the CD but still nothing. I tried to install using another CD ROM and get the same error. For a newbie at copying files from the CD is there a simple fix to this problem or will I have to purchase Windows ME again?     - Firewall for 98SE? I am cleaning up an old computer and want to install her first firewall. Have done the routine maintenance and removed malware+viruses. If it were WinMe, I would install Kerio V2.15. Can I install Kerio on 98SE? or install something different? She needs something relatively easy to use. If relevant, she has wireless high speed cable connected to a hub, but uses her computers (98SE desktop, WinXP laptop) infrequently ... for e-mails and income tax software, etc. Little browsing of Internet.     - Win Media Player caused a Major FUBAR was running the Media Player with all the updates installed while playing a music track the visual display begain the skip so we stopped the player and restarted the computer. first thing on restart the puter asked for a password. (now our puter is not setup for passwords) next the puter went into default video driver. (the puter had completely lost all reference to the ATI board or drivers.) we restarted in the safe mode and scanned for viruses using AVG.. None were found, we then scanned for spys using Lavasofts product. again no spys.. Had to restore to an earlier date to clear the problem..     - Idle problem when playing games or on the INTERNET my PC every few minutes goes into idle mode (i.e no response in the page loading, game freezing momentarily) and then comes back. Sometimes I have the Procexp.exe on just to check and in those moments I get 100 percent idle even though my browser is supposed to refresh. Nothing would be active according to the above utility.     - Keyboard Problems My PS/2 keyboard doesn't work at all. The only sign of it actually being connected is when the "Caps Lock", "Scroll Lock" , and "Num Lock" keys light up just as I turn on the computer. In Device Manager, there is no keyboard listed, but the keyboard worked once. I installed the software that came along with my keyboard, but it still doesn't work.     - Clogged Arteries??? Hi from Ohio, Running a Dell 4100, 40G, 11G used 28G remaining, 512 RAM, McAfee, Zone Alarm, Popup Stopper, Ad-Aware. I have Belarc, CW shredder, Spy Bot, Spyware Blaster, Registry Mechanic, all the Microsoft Office programs, etc. I have about 90/95 icons on my desktop. Some of these are folders with about 1300 MB of pictures in the various ones. On a reboot my resources are 69/72 and GDI is 91%. Sometimes these resourses seem to disappear even with very little open. Booting is slow as if every program is checking for updates at the same time. The mouse is erattic during this time. The icons all look the same like a dog eared sheet of paper with one red and one blue dot. Then they start putting on their costumes so I can recognize them without reading the subtitles. They pop out one at a time like the stars a night. I don't have a CD burner and it would be a little tough to get a lot of that stuff on a zip. Have run everything and have found no spyware. Last week McAfee reported a virus that could not be deleted or immunized.I finally had to disable system restore and restart it. It was acting a little strange anyway. Some of the old check points were not working. Ocassionally when I go back to my desktop my little icons have put their masks back on and I have to hit refresh. Yes Noel, I got rid of Norton a long time ago. Occasionally my mouse sputters or a game might slow down but I think that is Mailwasher checking the mail. Outlook is set to check only manually. Installation was flawless and it works beautifully, with bountyful features, including backup.     - Winmt32 has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL I was trying to upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional and I know this is not a recommended path but Win2000 is much more sorted. It goes well until it starts checking the files for incompatibility and then I get the message above and I have to abort the process. I have not yet found what Wnmt32 is or what causes the problem.     - Sound Stutters My PC has developed a real problem with stuttering sound, even the windows start up music is distorted. The stuttering is there on both speakers and headphones. I can't pin it down to any specific action on my part. Device Manager shows no problems or conflicts. I have tried 3 different sound cards, including Audigy2NX which is an external USB device, but they all have exactly the same symptoms. I have replaced the drivers on my video card, Radeon 9800XT AGP, and have also tried running it as just a standard VGA device, but to no avail. I have also tried upgrading the chipset drivers (Intel 875P). The problem is still there with no background processes running except explorer, state mgr and systray. My system is MSI 875P Neo ICH5 mobo with pentium 4 2.8hz and 512MB DDR RAM. Increasing RAM to 1GB made no difference. Temperatures all seem ok. Antivirus, Spyware and Adware scans are all clear.     - PDF vs. Resources At times Adobe Acrobat Reader6 seems to eat up a tremendous amount of either memory and/or system resources, specifically when downloading larger pdf files, up to the point where there is not enough memory left and it is being suggested to exit some programs, in order to free up space.     - Auto start programs I have WinPoet on my laptop for dial-up. When I start my laptop it runs automatically and then is in my system tray but it is not in my start up folder. I now use a USB wireless connection to access the internet, but I don't want to remove the WinPoET so I can use dial up if my DSL goes down.     - Windows / Temp Files Not sure what is going on but I am trying to clear my windows.temp directory. The are more than 36,000 files in there all with basically the same name (slightly differet). The names start with HP and then have slight variations in the remainder of the name. My WINME computer locks up when I try and select all of the files to delete. I tried to clear through the Disk Cleanup utility but apparently that doesnt cleat the Windows.Temp directory. I have been having some strange problems with the computer and clearing this temp directory in the past has helped. Can this have anything to do with my HP932 printer? Something is suspiciously up with my computer... many of the files I
delete dont end up in the Recycle Bin. It just disappears into thin
air...Where have the deleted files been going?

And I cant use Task Manager. It says "Task Manager has been disabled by
the administrator." But.. I'm the administrator.

You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
