My mother is running a early version of Windows 98 and now
need to upgrade to at least Windows 98 SE.... Copies of
this are as rare as hen's teeth. I found Microsoft still
marketing Windows ME upgrade.. My question is: Mom runs
her church minutes, chruch rolls and other corespondance
using Microsoft Office 97 small business edition.. is it
compatible with windows ME operating system?
Thanks Larry...

Read here before you proceed:
Tips Before Purchase, Setup, and After Setup of Windows (Me)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=272156

Check the hardware requirements carefully, some of the older pc's don't
take to ME upgrades all that well. Office 97 should run well on ME but
you have to remember that this version dates from the Windows 95 days.
However all of the products in the Office suite of programs are highly
compatible with newer versions of Windows. You might want to ask about
this in the Office newsgroup:

news:microsoft.public.office.misc
news:microsoft.public.office.setup

As for Windows 98 SE & hen's teeth well the dentists are busy pulling
teeth here:

Very nicely done, John!

Minimum Hardware Requirements to Install Windows Millennium
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;253695&Product=winme

SUMMARY
This article outlines the minimum hardware requirements needed to
install Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

MORE INFORMATION
The minimum hardware requirements for Windows Me include:

Pentium 150-MHz processor or better
32 megabytes (MB) of RAM or better
Minimum 320 MB of free hard-disk space
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
3.5-inch high-density floppy disk drive
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Video adapter and monitor that support VGA or higher resolution
Sound card
Speakers or headphones
-----

Frankly, a new XP Home system is less than $500 in the Boston area this
holiday season. This is the better avenue than upgrading such an old
system now, IMO. The academic version of Office 2004 is $149 now.

You're welcome, .... and I meant Office 2003, of course.
