    - filenames UPPERCASE in win explorer I've just installed Win ME. Filenames are displaying in UPPERCASE letters in Windows Explorer. Well, some filenames are and some are normal (lowercase or Proper Case). I want them all showing in the case I created them. I publish (via Frontpage) files to my website. Anyone who has a website knows that case sensitivity is important. I found a registry hack on Windows Annoyances that didn't work. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-101 If I can't get this solved, I'd rather buy XP than to take a chance wrecking my website.     - re: install Win ME over LAN I don't expect that you'll see this, Jack, but thanks so much for responding. The setup.txt file on the Win ME CD had all the answers I was looking for. For future reference, copying the installation files to the hard disk and installing from there is ALWAYS the preferred method for installing Win ME. It's a piece of cake and only requires copying 176 MB of files to the hard drive. The rest of the Win ME CD is just garbage.     - Windows ME explorer window Everytime I start up my PC, a windows explorer window always pops up with the C:Windows directory. The only thing in my startup folder is the MS Office bar. I was told that Norton could be causing this, but I am using McAfee, and also that more than one C:/program... folder could cause this, but I only have one.     - Saving Documnets I was in My Documents and renaming a word document. Some how in doing this all the word documents were changed to Word Pad Documents. Now when I create a new Word document they are also being saved at WordPad documents. How do I change this so Word Documents are being saved as Word Documents?     - radeon 7500 problem with display i recently had to load my recovery discs. once done, i had great difficulty "ticking" the license agreement because i am using a radeon 7500 video card and this played havoc with the graphics. after 3 hours trying, i fluked getting past it, i loaded the radeon software to correct the graphics, then i loaded a game onto the system and found the screen was flickering between the game and a black screen. i also recieved a message telling me it was short of memory. my system is 95% free! i spent 24 hours downloading all the updates from the web including windows updates and direct x 9.0. i also performed another 3 hours running scandisc thorough and then another 2 hours defragmenting the drive. all this made no difference. somebody must know something, maybe the recovery discs loaded the original software/drivers for the original display card and this is interferring with the radeon software? my system was working fine with this new card before the recovery installation...     - Outlook Express 6 First my rant: I just wanted to ask Microsoft a simple question about OE 6. I'm astounded how difficult (seemingly impossible) they make that. My problem: awhile back I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded all the applicable free stuff (updates, patches, etc.) that I could. One of those was Outlook Express 6. Since then, I am unable to open attachments. I get the following message: "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:(name of attachment)". I already have Norton virus protection, so I don't need OE to tell me what attachments I can open and what I can't. Actually, it won't let me open any. How can I fix this? I have Microsoft ME. Not all of these files have a .tmp extension.     - quarantined files...what to do now? I first got the W32.Dumaru@mm virus in September, then the W32.Sobig and an IRC Trojan a few days ago. I didn't have anti virus for the first one, then installed Norton Antivirus 2003, which detected and automatically removed the Dumaru virus from three files: C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM.load.32 C:/WINDOWS/dllreg.exe C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM.vxdmgr32.exe and when my computer started up it would inform me that "windows cannot find" the last file on the list.     - Error Message SIFP My Computer crashed the Operating Systems last weekend. I got the system running again by reloading my Windows ME and all seemed fine for a while. The unit is connected to my computer via a usb connection. Upon bootup one day the software stated that the connection is no longer available "the cable is unplugged". The cable was plugged in.     - Automatically attempting to dial connection Somewhat recently, I keep getting prompted to connect to the internet. This usually happens when I use Windows explorer and click on a folder. Each time I click on another folder, I am prompted. It also happens when I go into the Control Panel. It appears as though when a new window is opened, it attempts to connect. I have installed spy-bot, Ad-Aware and a firewall. The only think that the firewall seems to be picking up that is trying to connect is LOADQM.EXE and QMGR.DLL (I'm assuming part of Windows Update). Windows update in the control panel is set to manually check. I do not like having control over whatever this is and am quite concerned with what it is trying to do, even if it is the update process.
