    - Windows Installer - Looking for Office XP disk Every now and then (see examples when below), I'm getting a Windows Installer dialog error message as follows: "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Microsoft Office XP Professional disk and Click OK." There's a Browse button. As far as I know, there's never been Office XP Professional installed on my PC. It's looking for a file PRORET.MSI. Examples of when this happens are when I right click on Desktop icon or when I right click on a filename when in a File | Open dialog. Any ideas what do, other than trying to get hold of an Office XP Professional disk? Any ideas why this is happening? Tag: Clock is slow Tag: 225333

    - Control panel icons access I cannot access any icons in the control panel to make changes.When I click on an icon in the control panel, I get a window that comes up that is titled Control Panel and the text says,"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.     - relocate sys. folders? I recently acquired a computer with winME on it which has ALOT of folders and files scattered about b/c the previous owner deleted instead of uninstalling programs. It seems that the order of system folders are wrong and sometimes doubled up... for instance there is a: C:\windows\cookies C:\windows\temp.internet files and C:\windows\history ... which is what I am used to seeing with win98. But, then there are also all of those same folders inside C:\windows\Temp. I(almost) got brave and tried to get rid of the doubles but chickened out when a message popped up basically telling me that I better not move the folder. I tried to find some web-info re: the correct order of folders but had no luck. Hopefully,someone here can help... A) are those folders supposed to be 2x's?     - Partitioning problem I partitioned a hard drive with the full amount ( which is 40GB). After ME installed C drive only shows 1.99GB. I don't know what happened to the rest of it.     - WindowsME Hanging up I have a problem with WinMe hanging up after I log on. I have downloaded all sorts of info from Microsoft and have a question. As long as I have the system set to Selective System the system runs with no problem. Once I click on normal settings and reboot, the system hangs up. Is it ok to leave the system on selective settings while trying to evaluate the problem? I think I have it limited to a driver problem. Currently going through the process of elimination. Something like the TweakUI "Paranoia" settings will be the best solution. 2nd best will be a utility that will do it and I could run from the Startup folder. 2.     - Explorer has caused an error in FTAP.DLL..... I have a clients computer running Me that whenever you try to access anything through My Computer, or the Control Panel, etc, the following message is displayed: "Explorer has caused an error in FTAP.DLL.     - corrupted drive I've been using ME since it came out. I've never had any serious problems at all until now. My C drive is an 80 GB drive on IDE1. My D and E drives are a 160 GB drive split equally. All of a sudden following a lockup I rebooted and scandisk ran and said like ten folders were corrupted on the D drive and it fixed it automatically. The folders are all garbage now...     - MSVFW32.DLL problems I cannot get my children's Digital Blue digital movie maker software that I installed on my computer to boot. I keep get an error message that DMM has caused an error in MSVFW32.DLL and will now close. I have tried replacing the MSVFW32.DLL file with a new version from the C:\WINDOWS\Options\Cabs file, but I continue to get the MSVFW32.DLL is in use by Windows and cannot be replaced or renamed message. I have tried to shut down all programs that I am aware of that are running and tried to perform the change in Safe Mode. I still get the MSVFW32.DLL is in use by Windows message.     - Invalid system disk I tried to restart my computer last friday, and now after it tries to load ez-bios it displays "Invalid system disk" After trying to restart the the pc with the ME disk in there still no help. Also if I do hit control while loads, it asks me to boot using the C: or A: drive but it still gives the invalid system disk line, regardless of the one I choose.     - Delay in Using Windows ME Explorer&My Computer When using Explorer or My Computer there is a 30-45 sec. delay in gaining access to the Drives or Directories. The OS seems to be in a waiting mode - HourGlass Displayed during this delay. This happens everytime I attempt to open Explorer or My Computer.     - CD ROM I can't seem to find an answer for this one...and please, not too technical or I'm lost. When putting a CD in, the computer locks up, with the exception of the cursor. It doesn't matter what type, whether audio or otherwise.     - Defrag starts running on its own Hi all - I have been having a problem with the defrag starting to run all of a sudden, seemingly on its own. The scandisk does not run first, only the defrag starts up. It does not happen at any particular time of the day, or day of the week, as if it is a scheduled activity. But, usually when it starts to run, the machine has been idle for a while. I have gone into another room for about 15-20 minutes, and when I come back, the defrag program is running..? I do not have it set to run on any particular schedule, or..at least not intentionally. I run the scandisk manually at least every couple of days, and the defrag every month or so, depending on my computer activities. I have updated and run my SpyBot, Adaware, AV's, HijackThis and Stinger. Perhaps a bit of overkill, but, I seem to be hunting a ghost, so I called on all the GhostBusters I could think of. ;-) I'd truly appreciate any suggestions, information or input, in hopes it might shed some light on what may be causing this odd behavior.     - Errors??? When i turn on my computer before it loads, i get this black screen and it says at the topleft hand corner, WININIT.EXE : Missing/Unable to load. Press any key to continue... After i do so it loads as usual then i get this other message a circle with a red X, Windows cannot find '/P'.     - can't download windows updates Hi, I have been going into my windows updates that opens in my start menu. When I click on it to search for updates to my windows ME, it says I have 3 critical updates. I click on "install now", then it looks like it's going to start the upgrade but the progress stays a 0 and nothing happens. When I go into my update history, it says they all failed. My computer has been acting weird for about 6 months now but it's not too bad. I can still use it fine. I just have a feeling that there is a problem pn my C drive. I have run all virus scans and things to check your computer and it doesn't find anything. There is some reason why I cand download the updates and sometimes I cand do the maintenance. When it gets to disc defrag, it stays on 0 also. Ant suggestions? Is there some program I can run that will check my hard drive for problems? There must be something messed up somewhere.
