Change from me back to 98 se

The registry on my windows me is totally corrupt and I'm
TIRED of messing with it. I want to go back to windows 98
se. Right now my audio doesnt work, I cant use my cd/rw
drive and I can barely get an internet connection (very
unstable) Porblem: hdd compressed when me was installed.
What I want to do is completely delete me, set up new
partition and reformat my hard drive. Then install clean
windows 98 se. Can anyone help?

Have a look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 255867 - "How to Use the
Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255867) as well as the file SETUP.TXT
which is in the Win 98 folder on the Win 98/98SE CD. This should help you get
started.

If your HDD was compressed when ME was installed it sounds as if it may
not be very large.

Is it feasible for you to buy a new HDD and do a clean install on that?
If so, and if you want to save any data, then you should be able to
install your existing HDD as a second (slave) HDD and copy the data to
the new HDD. Then you can reformat the old one and use it as a second disk.
