    - Window Help menu freezes Whenever I try to open the windows help menu the screen opens and freezes. Closing the window opens an alert box telling me that the program is busy. I'm running Win ME and other help menus run fine. I encountered this problem after NAV removed a virus and my printer quit working, attempting to troubleshoot the printer highlighted the dead help menu.     - Scan Disk problem I've always run Scan Disk on a regular basis on the home computer, which runs Windows ME. The last several times I've tried to run Scan Dick, the program hasn't worked.     - Is there a way to stop memory leakage in Windows ME? I pirchased windows ME after purchasing my new computer with the Windows XP operating system which kept freezing up programs and I continually received fatal error messages. So I insytalled Windows ME and everything was working fine, for a while, but now I keep getting "close proogram dialog boxes and low system resources dialog boxes. I have 256 MB of RAM and only a very few programs loaded, I have almost no saved files which would require a lot of memory usage. I ran a program that detects memory leaks. Low and behold the program kept coming back that Windows ME has allowed large amounts of memory leakage. How can I stop this leakage once and for all.     - Bootup Problem solved I have had problems with startup. The screen would freeze up right before the desktop icons came up. This would happen about every other time, but sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. The culprit, Norton Internet Security 2003! Uninstalled it and it booted 10 times in a row.     - Card reader assigned to drive D During the installation of my graphics tablet software, various *.dll files were identified as missing and I was prompted to insert the Windows ME disc into the drive. Doing so did not resolve the prompted of the missing files. To get around this, I copied the missing dll files from my notebook to the desktop. Now, whenever I insert a media card reader into the USB port, it is assigned drive D and my virtual D, E, and F drives are reassigned to E, F, and G. It makes no difference with brand of card reader I use, the D drive is assigned to the card reader. The 9 in 1 reader that I now am using used to be assigned the last 4 unused letters before since it has 4 slots for the different types of media. Now its assigned D and the next unused letter.     - Is this a hardware problem? I have a spare computer (previously my son's) that appears to have gone onto standby or hibernation - when I switch on the power all I get is the power button flashing - I can't hear the fan or anything starting up - any ideas? What happened was: I switched it on the alter the settings so that I could remove the extra graphics card as I wished to sell this separately since the machine has an onboard graphics chip. I switched it on and it all loaded, albeit slowly I couldn't find a ps2 mouse so I used a usb mouse with an adaptor on but this didn't connect properly so didn't work when loading windows me so I had to use the keyboard, when the password box came up I pressed the enter/return key to cancel this however nothing seemed to happen so I pressed escape this resulted in the machine appearing to switch to standby. Is this a hardware problem or have I inadvertantly put it into standby or hibernation? (I never use these options as I can't remember how to turn them off). Any help would be appreciated.     - What's Mr. Bill gonna do for us poor ME user's ? A few years ago I puchashed an HP Pavilion with factory installed ME on it. It frequently has problems and seldom runs smoothly. I have used 95,98 & XP without nearly the headaches! I've had a couple of computer "buffs" tell me; "get rid of ME, its junk". I've had IT people I work with say; ME is bad, dump it and load XP.     - Explorer has removeable drives C through Z After trying to install drivers for a Kanguru device (external hardrive comprising an adapter shell and a Dell Inspiron TravelStar warranty replacement drive - - which I am trying to use to back up the old drive before I am supposed to send it back) I am faced with Explorer's telling me that drives C through Z are present and are all removeable. The C drive seems to work just fine, but I have lost access to the optical D drive and also to the E Zip drive. I have no use for drives G through Z, but they currently seem to stand in the way when I try to connect the extrernal drive through the USB 2.0 port. I need to get rid of drives G through Z and need to get drives D and E back, and of course, convince Windows that drive C is really not removeable. Thanks.     - vmm32.vxd I have a HP with ME and received a error for the vmm32.vxd device driver that it could not be found and the computer shut down. Windows will not open and this message reappears. Safe mode functions occasionally but no fixes have worked. The system resotore will not work because there are no back up points nor will the scanreg as no registry is found. I have tried the back up disks and they will reformat successfully but when re-installing everything it gets caugt up on this driver and shuts down again. I also get the Kernell32.dll errors among some others. I deleted the OS from the hard drive and was able to re-install everything from the system disks and but cannot get all the way through the set up screens as the errors reappear. I have only removed the original 56K modem to use the ethernet port for my broadband connection, is this the problem? I don't have a scanner or any other equippment that is described in some of the fixes for the error messages posted. I have lived with the error messages regarding the missing device driver VMM32.VXD and KERNEL32.DLL for quite a while and just recently has the OS become completely non functional.     - Mouse point freezes on screen when online I am having an unusual problem. I did a complete restore on my Compaq 7000 computer. Now, when online (either netzero or aol), after a while, the mouse pointer just freezes. I can still move the mouse and see the tool buttons highlight, but the pointer quits moving.     - Computer does start I have Windows Millennium and it will not open. I took it to the computer shop and was told that the operating system was not working and was common with Millennium. Just switched to cable service yesterday, deleted my dial
up files (Earthlink). Now I cannot access IE from my
desktop icons, only through "my computer"? What setting or
command is missing?

With IE open, go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Check "Show Internet
Explorer on Desktop". Click OK. You may need to restart your computer.

If no joy, go the IE program folder and create a short of the IExplore.exe
file. For example, C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
