All,

I have Windows ME on my laptop (OEM) and older desktop
(upgraded from win95 OSR2).

On my desktop system, I can run "console" programs (the
LAME MP3 encoder, etc.) and Windows GUI programs by typing
the program name at the DOS prompt and hitting ENTER.

On my laptop, however, the only programs I can run that way
are DOS programs; when I type the names of Windows GUI
programs or console programs at the DOS prompt and hit
ENTER, absolutely nothing happens -- I remain at the DOS
prompt.

Does anyone know what factors control this behavior, and
how I can eliminate the problem?

Thanks,

Ed

I don't understand why you need to run Windows apps from a DOS prompt. Do
you mean Start>Run?
