Thanks Alias.
Can the CCleaner be troublesome?

Harry.

I've been using it without a glitch..........no probs here. In fact, I did
away with my $$$ Windows Washer for this much smaller, faster app.
Heirloom, old and like it

P.S. Harry, you should be officially nominated for the "Person who has
learned the most in the past year" award. A year ago, you would install
anything that looked like something you would want and, now, you check
things out before installing. Good for you!!!

It hasn't troubled me and I use it on three computers. I also have a
friend who works on computers and he installs it on every one that he
cleans up or fixes.

Just be sure and back up what you take off using the Registry Issues
feature.

You can get it at http://www.ccleaner.com/

Heirloom:

I am a bit alarmed by the warning that things will be permanently deleted on
my computer. Isn't there no backup?
And then I understand, it is not 100%.
Do you see light at the end of the tunnel, H?

Harry.

Those are temp files and can be deleted without any problems. You should
back up the registry Issues before removing and you are prompted to do
so, although I have never had to use the back ups.

Good advice from Alias. If you look at the items after you "Analyze", you
will see that they are all .tmp or index.dat type files.
All of these are expendable, no need for backup. Of course, the index.dat
files will not be removed until the next reboot as they are in use by
Windows. When cleaning the "Issues", as Alias said, you are prompted to
make a backup. To date, I have never had to use a backup. I keep them for
about a month, then dispose of them. The nice part is, you can click on a
particular item and you can open it in Regedit, giving you an opportunity to
see exactly what the app is going to perform.
Heirloom, old and works for me

Very good, Heirloom and Alias:

Knowing what you've both told me, I feel a lot better about this program and
will now be able to go ahead and use it freely, which I definitely will.
Thanks for your words of assurance and comfort.

Harry.

One thing more I should mention.......I unchecked the 'Auto Complete Form
History', 'Recycle Bin' and ' Windows Log Files' from the first page and the
Zone Alarm Logs, Adaware, Spybot, and RegEdit from the Applications tab.
This is a personal preference, as I like to clean these items myself. Set
yours up as you see fit, of course.
Heirloom, old and must do some shopping
