OE 167 :BFF822AE or
OE 16F :BFF822AE
Cannot get my computer to start, in regular or safemode.
Keep getting the above errors.
Did startup disk, Scanreg /fix
and Scanreg /restore previous backup.
Even tried using WinMe CD
same error.

Was running Regmon, before it caused an error in kernel32.dll.
This error would keep popping up so I rebooted.
I found this log of that error in faultlog.txt:

Looking for a few more suggestions. : ) TIA Jeff B

What's the FIULL text of the error messages you're currently getting at

Noel:

"
Windows
An Error has occurred. To continue:

Press Enter to return to Windows, or

Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart your computer. If you do this,
you will lose any unsaved information and all open applications.

Error: 0E : 0167 : BFF822AE
Press any key to continue...

I forgot to say earlier that I've run scandisk in DOS and it did find some
errors. Once a free space error,
next reboot FAT was reported wrong.
Was replaced.

This type of error is usually associated with Video drivers -
Reboot to Safe Mode, Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Display Adapters
Remove ALL Monitors
Remove ALL items in the 'Other Devices' branch
Remove ALL entries fro error-flagged devices

Reboot to Normal Mode and see if that fixes it - if not, then try updating
your Video drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Try using System Restore rather than Scanreg - look here for the
instructions

Possibly worth running a DOS virus scanner over the system - you can get a
free one from www.f-port.com (read the instructions on the site) - just in
case. This sounds as if there's some major file corruption somewhere:(

refuse the mouse drivers - see if that gets you through to some sort of

Maybe try disabling USB in the BIOS (and if you're using a USB KB swithc
it out with a ps2 type obviously) first, then I'd suggest starting with
the memory sticks if that doesn't do anything. I assume that the full
POST test is already enabled in the BIOS.

Rick
fishing mostly, but something might be good... on the bright side as
long as you've opened the case, you can always take the opportunity to
vacuum/blow it out and reseat everything.

The F-prot defs were for last month. As I said this was my offline box.
Somebody ran a script or distinct virus on me 3 1/2 years ago.
Norton never caught it. In fact, the day before I had refreshed the
definitions for norton.
I found a few of the files it used, but probably not all of the scum
it put on my system and in my registry.
It might still have been doing things right to the end.
All I know, one day I was searching a newspaper site for specific words,
next day I coundn't get online. Try to go on and computer would either
reboot, blue screen or not connect.
If I searched registry for a words connected with some of the files I found
that were part of
the virus, my computer would either reboot, blue screen or kill regedit.
Maybe renewing the install will calm that down.

Now that is being a problem.
Keep getting SUWIN errors trying to reinstall WINMe.

You HAVE to get rid of the virus before doing anything else - otherwise
it'll come back and haunt you big-time - maybe just wiping the whole HD!!
update the F_Prot definitions and try it again.

WRT your reinstall problem - it's a common one caused by reinstalling over
the top of WMP9.
Look here for instructions (once you've got rid of that virus!).

Didn't mention that I have fdisked the drive and formatted.
Also did fdisk/mbr
Still have the same SUWIN error trying to install WinME

SUWIN caused a General Protection Fault in
module <unknown> 0B87:0C2@1SUWIN will close.

sounds like you may have a problem, then!

Did you remember to switch off your BIOS virus protection before starting
the install?

Yes, never had that on.
Read on Jim Eshelmans site that certain bios settings might
interfere w setup and cause these errors, so I reset bios to
original.
About to trade out harddrive for another and test if that will
accept OS install. See if it's the HD or not ; }
