    - networking password? I recently had to replace my hard drive--ugghhh. What an ordeal. When I boot up, it wants my password.     - problems with my recycle bin i installed norton antivirus 2004 profesional (trial version), i found that the program made my computer 'hangs' so i wanted to uninstall it, but i can't find the uninstall button ,then i right click the file and delete it .strange thing happened afer that. my recycle bin name has been changed, it changed to 'Norton protected recycle bin', when i click into it, a program called UnErase Wizard appears. what should i do ?? i wanna have the original recycle bin !!     - C:\OLDREST\TEMP When I run mcafee it hits a hidden system file called c:\oldrest\temp. This file is almost 4 gigs and contains over 65,000 files with the file extension of .cpy, the earliest file creation date is 1997,which is older than my PC bought new in 2000 and the last entry is 2003. Mcafee spends the better part of an hour checking this file. My question is does anyone know what this is and what its for, can I delete it or shoould I just have mcafee exclude it? But I'm afraid if the frequencies(66MHz or 100MHz) of both the RAMs dont match, what will be the result??? In such a case, how does one understand that the RAMs frequencies are not mathcing???     - Troubles galore I'm trying to help a friend fix some problems on her system that runs ME. #1. It boots in selective startup even after you go into "MSCONFIG" and try to change it, also all items are checked in the startup menu. #2.     - dat file icon changed - how to change back All the DAT files have a Nero Multimedia icon against them. How do I change the icon back? Listing all the options under 'open with' does not give me the original DAT icon. In fact it warns me not to change it! Using Tweak UI, icons restore, does not cure the problem. It seems to have happened after I installed Nero 6 and did some critical updates from MS. AVG, XoftSpy, NoAdware, Spybot and CWShredder do not find anything. Any help would be appreciated.     - RUNDLL Error Recently, I deleted some keys in the Windows Registry to remove all obnoxious Adware files on my Windows ME operating system. Shortly after, I started constantly receiving a RUNDLL window popping up with the message "Error loading winup.dll The system cannot find the file specified. I had made a back up copy of the Windows Registry before deleting the Adware keys. I tried reverting back to that back-up to solve the RUNDLL error messages, but to no avail.     - 'ME" hangs when trying to shut down I have Windows ME. When I try to shut down it just hangs. When I hit cntl/alt/del it says that CCAP is not responding.     - what is jsproxy.$s$ ? My temp folder in my Windows folder has a few things in it I was curious about.     - shut down pops up I keep on getting pop-ups & when I try to close them down the shut down windows box appears and my comp freezes. I then have to manually shut it down, it also happens when I try shutting some other programmes down. I've run spybot & ad-aware, but the problem is still there.     - Adaware SE - not impressed Every time I try to load the SE1R2 definition file & restart the computer, it goes back to the SE1R1 definition.     - Can not delete Windows ME log on password I have gone through all of MS's Knowledge Base on how to prevent the Win ME Logon Prompt at startup per article 152104. At step 6 when I click OK at the end, I get an additional window that says WINDOWS NETWORKING, "You must specify a password". Thus I can not get away from having to use a Windows logon.     - Can't seem to see anything I am having a problem where after boot-up normally I am unable to view the contents of any folders. I have run stinger to check for viruses, search and destroy spybot, adaware looking for viruses/trojans and the like. It hasn't found anything. When I try to use the system restore, it tries to open a page, but remains blank. I have tried using scanreg /fix, and it does it's thing, and restarts the laptop, but same problem when it boots up normally.     - Internet connection problems Hi, I can connect to my ISP and update my virus guard files from the Mcafee tray icon, but when I try to check my e mail I get a message saying unknown host. When I try to surf the web I get "Page cannot be displayed." If I ping www.google.com, from a dos prompt, I just get timed out but if I ping myself 127.0.0.1 it gives four responses as you would expect. I have uninstalled internet explorer and then reinstalled it and upgraded it to ver 6.0 but still exactly the same. I did a Windows ME reinstall over my existing setup but no difference. It all started after someone inserted a disc to setup BT Connect as the ISP, unfortunately it was a very old disc and didn't work, just locked up the system.     - Something terribly wrong It seems when I click on any of my folders it's all blank. Nothing shows up. When I try to run HJT or my virus scan that too is blank and nothing shows up (no text, images nothing). I've went into safe mode and from there I can see all my stuff. I can boot from an old version (win98) startup disk, but never made a WinME startup disk. can the system files be downloaded from the internet or can they be extracted from my winME CD? How do I go about this. I can't get the setup to complete because of a long filename conflict. When scandisk ends it says to run the windows version, which of course I can't do. I would prefer not to reformat my c drive if possible. At the moment I'm working on a separate laptop with Win98 installed.     - Mike M Hey Mike, I just dl spyware,,,, found 120 critical spies. I quarantined them, until I can read up on what to delete and what not to. I also have pcbugdoctor and it consistently says found Invalid Shared files , but can't fix it. Will run a scan disk tonight. My IE settings are default. ok when you say cd with DATA.... now don't think I am stupid, but could you give me an example? I mean I know your talking about data as in text... I have put in Disks for installation, example.... Adaptec, which has data, and still nothing, is this what you mean? I also have a disk Called Streets (data) where I look up addresses, I have put that in , and nada,,,, will work in the DVD drive though. It used to work in the CD Drive. I had not burned cds in a yr, then went to use it and all I hear is this click click sound, then nothing, orange light flashes then goes away. I am running Win Me with a 700 MHz Pentium III, 256 MB and
10G hard drive.

Just re-installed Win Me and I am getting this bios-type
beeps spaced out by 5 or 6 seconds. It beeps once each
time.

How to stop this?

That is usually a warning that the CPU is running hot - check your system
fans.
