Forgot to tell you......there is a new build of EZ Trust
Antivirus......6.3.0.9 is the version number.

I was talking to CA and they forgot to send out a notification to their
users.....which did not impress me.

And I asked a few more questions about EZ Armor because I finally found a
way to download the free Microsoft version. There were some glitches before
because I was a paying customer of the AV program. Earlier, I could not
have d/l'ed it. The bit where one clicks as a *present customer* would not
work, so I got it somehow from their website.

They told me that they have fixed up their abominably slow website and
yes...I checked it out and they have.

****They told me that the free firewall is *Zone Alarm PRO 4.5* (not a 3.xxx
one) that is included in the freebie......and once this AV is up for renewal
in 10 days, I will switch to that.****

I have to say that dealing with their tech support is a pleasure.....they
are always nice and do get back to you. This took 24 hours.

Just keeping you up to date on EZ Trust/Armor. I have used it for at least
4 years and have absolutely no complaints.

Cheers.......and I am REALLY off to bed......Heather

Heather I have been using WZArmor since December. Last May I got an update
to a newer version (6.2.0.28) and they appear to have extended my free
license on it until May 23.2005) Interesting Do you have the URL of the new
update.

Last Monday my wifes Norton corrected and hung up her system. I remove it
and put on the free version of EZArmor for her. I noticed the new free
version firewakk has a lot of freatures they only give a 15 day trail on, so
I have not updated my firewall (Ver 3.7.179)

I agree with you I will buy the product when my trails end. There email tech
support has beeen great for the few questions I had. Haven't tryed the phone
since its no included with the free versions.

I haven't seen my from Silj lately has he switched OS's ?

Hello, Heather and upscope:

I, too, like the EZArmor suite. But every year I get tangled in CA's Web
site and have to resolve billing issues. I purchased the original suite
years back for $59.95 ($49.95?) with all subsequent years supposed to cost
only $19.95. Except I'm never charged $19.95. This year I was charged
$29.95. I have to go back through billing and make the correction. I'm still
out my ten bucks so far. But I do like the product a bunch -- lately it has
snagged more than a dozen email attachments containing the
js/sulzer/downloader trojan.

Just before I read this post, I found out that my ISP gives us the option of
downloading EZArmor for a year. They said it was the 2004 version. Just
as good?? I'm assuming that their 2005 version is the same as the 6.3 that
you mentioned here Heather?

Yes.......the 2005 version is the Antivirus 6.3.0.9.......not sure about the
EZ Armor. However, I just checked both of them that I downloaded this week
and they both say *2004 version*.

The tech assured me that EZ Armor contained version 4.5 of Zone Alarm
Pro.......the Pro part surprised me. But I will put it on here shortly. I
did put 6.3 on.....no problems.

But to put EZ Armor on, I (and you) will have to uninstall our present Zone
Alarm programs. I always do anyway even with a ZA upgrade.....it just works
better. The link I had to the uninstall page is no longer any good, but I
do have the instructions saved here.....it is quite *entwined*.

Let me know if you want them posted......I was looking at them yesterday as
well.

Cheers......Heather

Hi, Heather,

Don Hoover's site details a step-by-step on uninstalling ZoneAlarm, and you
can download a PDF of the directions. He's one of the "gurus" on the
ZoneAlarm forum. Here's the link:

http://don.hoover.net/uninstall.html

I've been using EZAV 6.3.0.9 for a few weeks now without any problems. It's
alerted me to a few nasties on a couple of occasions. Resource usage is
low, and it's very compatible with Windows ME. I only installed the AV, not
the firewall. I didn't want to reconfigure the settings in ZA. However, I
am intrigued that the firewall may be ZA Pro. If you could verify that it's
not just the 15 day free trial after you install it, please post back. If
it is the trial version, then I can just keep my current setup. :)

Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom......

I will look into it. I downloaded it from CA. Oddly tho, I can't get
Acrobat to work....it pooped out on me a couple of times tonight. Using
version 4. Guess I shall have to uninstall it and put 5 on. So I can't
read the instructions from your link......

I will go and hunt down that download and see what they say, but I am pretty
darn sure it is for a lot longer than 15 days.

I do believe I got something about being a *preferred customer*....or
stumbled onto it. But I just checked the email they sent with the
registration number for EZ Armor and it definitely states one year free.

Heather,

See my post to Shane in the AntVir thread. I found a page on the EZ Armor
web site that explains the difference between the free (LE) version and the
regular version. It looks like the EZ Armor LE version includes ZA free
with a 15 day trial of ZA Pro, and the EZ Armor regular version includes ZA
Pro.

Thanks,
Tom

Thanks Heather. I'll get it later today. I'm trying to move my wife's
version of EZArmor from her old system to the new one I bought yesterday. I
should have waitted a couple of days before I installed it on the old

The new free version my wife got says 15 days for the firewall upgrades.
still trying to figure out if the basic firewall will continue past that
time. message said something about having to manual start firewall after the
15 days. I'll look at t again and let you know since I told the install
program not to install the 15 day trail but it looks like it did anyway.

Hi Tom and anyone else who is interested in the division of EZ Armor
LE......this is the reply I got from Tech Support when I asked
a) what version of ZA was in the LE version......and
b) can I just put the antivirus part on......IOW was it separate from the ZA
firewall.

It is a bit of a PITA, but yes, it can be done.....but for $20 I think I
will just stay with my pay version and not go thru the hassles of
uninstalling ZAPro and reinstalling.....

I left my *frugal Scottish jeans* in Scotland......(VBG)

Heather

PS.......I see the 15 days in there that you mentioned, Tom.

/Quote...........
Yes, that is correct. With the EZ Armor LE you are provided EZAV and EZ
Firewall Lite for 365 days. However, you can also choose to trial EZ
Firewall for 15 days and then purchase a license for this. By purchasing the
license you can then upgrade to EZ Armor 2005 as well, it turns the free EZ
Armor LE license into a full EZ Armor license.

But, back to your specific question, yes you can use only EZ AV out of EZ
Armor LE. However, you will need to remove ZA Pro first, because the install
of EZ Armor LE will catch it and flag you. During the install of EZ Armor
LE, you can then choose to install only EZ Antivirus by unchecking EZ Armor
& EZ Firewall. After the install of EZ Antivirus is completed and you have
restarted, you can then reinstall ZA Pro.

I understand it seems like a lot of steps, but only 3 reboots are necessary
for the entire operation. First, uninstall ZA Pro, second - install EZ AV
from EZ Armor LE, third - reinstall ZAPro.

Hi, Heather,

Well, I took the plunge and installed the firewall portion of EZ Armor.
About four steps into the installation, you can select to install or not
install the AV and firewall components. The firewall is ZA Pro 4.5.585. I
like the additional configuration options in this version compared to ZA
free. I already had an EZ Armor license, and when I put in the key during
the installation, there were no prompts about it being a 15 day trial
version. There are two EZ Armor executables. One specifically indicates
that it is EZArmorLE. Use the executable that indicates only EZArmor, and
you should be okay since you have a current license.

The ZA removal using Don Hoover's instructions was very smooth. In
particular he recommended a /clean switch on the uninstall, and it left no
traces of ZA except for the Internet Logs folder. Additionally, having to
reconfigure the new firewall turned out to be much easier than I was
anticipating. So, so far so good here.

Hi Tom......

Well, I took the plunge at 2:30 a.m. and it went relatively well......I am
not quite as awake as I thought I would be at this hour, grin.

Those uninstall instructions of Don's were excellent......I backed up my
settings and had absolutely no problem with either the uninstall of ZAPro
4.5.538 or the subsequent reinstall. And it totally took out the Internet
Logs Folder as well.....I really had nothing left to do. Awesome difference
from the manual instructions of yore.

Got thru the install of EZ Armor.....Antivirus ONLY......but couldn't figure
out why it wouldn't download the defs.....(big 'duh')....I wasn't connected
to the Internet, grin. Naturally I had disconnected with ZAPro off.....but
didn't think of that when I was cursing EZ Trust, grin. See the silly,
embarrassed grin on my face???

Anyhow, my previous pay version ran out at midnight, so I decided to give it
a shot. It really was as easy as you said (barring a blonde moment, grin)
So all set and ready to go. I think the feature which checks downloading
mail is on, but this box only shows two items and my previous version had
three.....so I will wait till I see a virus email and will know then. My
ISP strips out the virus attachments anyway.

Yes.....ZAPro 4.5.538 has some pretty nifty features. Sometimes I forget
all that it does. I even set it to clean my cache daily. Nice.

Cheers.....and just thought I would report in as well, in case anyone else
is going to try it.......Heather

P.S. Someone (Shane?) said the meter didn't start running till you opened
it.....nope!! It started the day I downloaded it. Aug. 29th.

PPS.....Heirloom......download this one. Free and good....perfect for an
old Texan!!

Hi, Heather,

It sounds like all went well despite your reported "blonde moments." Glad
to hear it. What's the version of the of the AV that you installed? I've
got 6.3.0.9 and the Engine is 11.6.0.0. On the surface it's the same as the
6.2 version. IIRC, I downloaded the standalone AV and just installed over
the 6.2 version to upgrade to the latest AV version. As far as the
real-time monitor, there's Boot monitoring, File monitoring, and Email
monitoring. You can check the settings to confirm that all three are
enabled. I've received a couple of emails recently with Netsky attached, so
I leave the email monitoring enabled. Thanks for posting back.

Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom.....

No....it is 6.1.9.7 with the same engine. I removed my standalone AV which
was the newest one coz this one created a different folder. I wonder if I
could add the 6.3.0.9 to it. The old one is still in my recycle bin, but I
do have the package in my downloads folder for my old one. Might be worth a
try......or I could ask one of the tech support folks.

Mine doesn't have the email monitoring.....but that is OK, coz I turned it
off anyway. I am still using Mailwasher even tho my ISP has spam and virus
filters on here. EZ Trust was going off even with the contents of the virus
attachments stripped off.

Have to run.....going to a bbq....lovely and warm here in the Great White
North, grin.

Cheers....Heather

Heather,

It's possible to upgrade the 6.1.x version to the 6.3 version. If you still
have the standalone installation file for 6.3, when you run the
installation, it should recognize that you have 6.1 and install over it.
The latest EZArmor Suite contains the 6.2 version.

Enjoy the bbq and the weather. It's been a couple of years, unfortunately,
since I've been to Canada.

Just happened to notice this post, Heather and even read most of it. Boy
that sounds like quite a bit of work.
I am virually new at this and started downloading a couple of days ago,
following your recommendation. Right now I have the latest version of both,
the anti virus and the firewall running on my machine perfectly.
Am I plain lucky, or actually a least bit inclined?
At any rate: EZArmorLE is working smoothly and efficiently on this machine
and hopefully it's going to stay that way.
Thank you, Heather, for you good advice.

Harry, all of a sudden not feeling so old at all.

Glad to hear that you downloaded it OK......mine was rather different
because my version of ZAPro was better than the free one and I wanted to
keep it.

It really wasn't that hard......but made notes and followed them. My memory
is not quite as good as it used to be at 3 a.m., grin!! Do remember if you
ever update Zone Alarm to the next level, that it is best to uninstall the
previous one......so just ask and Tom or I can tell you.

Psst.....you are not any older than I am, lol. Or Herr Loon either. We are
all *silver surfers*!!

Cheers......Heather

My lips are sealed, Heather.
Just show me the decimal points of Tom's age, if permissable, like one for
every decade.
My own: .......4

Harry, old and still hopeful.

Harry,

Am I reading the number of decimal points correctly? I'll keep mine under
the table....for now. ;)
