    - HP ScanJet 5370C This scanner workes fine for 3-4 scans, then it begins to scan 3 small images at the top of the scan and continues to do so until the scanning software is closed, in this case, paperport 11. The A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2 with 400 MHz FSB (Rev 1 is 333FSB) with an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ is actually the fastest Socket A chip they made. This is "7th generation" 32 bit processing technology, new in 2003. Original CD's even include drivers for SATA drives under WinME. Original CD's for the A7N8X Deluxe main board also have DVD player software. That family of main boards was VERY popular with gamers and overclockers because the overclocking could all be done from the BIOS software. The AMD XP 3200+ CPU still has an amazing level of demand for 4 year old technology that is no longer manufactured. The next jump up from Athlon XP 3200+ Socket A 32 bit processors would be Athlon XP 64 xxxx+ 64 bit processors right? WinME won't run on 64 bit processors will it? Even people wanting WinXP need to get a special 64 bit version of that don't they? Are there any 8th generation processor/main boards that have WinME drivers?     - Right click:"Arrange Icons by date" Question In windows Explorer you can add 'Date Created' column by going to View/choose column/date created. Arranging by Date created will always sort the files date and time order, so that the earliest file appears first and the latest file appears last; You can also arrange files in date order by right clicking on a blank space in the folder and selecting Arrange Icons 'By Date' Also note: that is the same function that is available when you want to select files in WMP or any other application that calls on the "open folder" or "open files" dialogue box. Arrange Icons 'By Date' acts differently to sort files by date created! The results are not consistent ie some older files will appear before some newer files.     - screen images and font distorted When I turned on my computer today, the size of desktop screen was distorted--everything---icons, font and screensaver pic all look stretched out width ways. And it is the same with all screens I open--internet explorer, all websites, e-mail etc. I have to keep scrolling over on the internet now to see the full screen because it is all stretched out!     - Slow startup due to Windows splash screen appearing during POST When the POST first starts, various BIOS settings are displayed. Then the Windows splash screen appears for about five seconds. After that, the remaining portions of the POST appear before the computer gets to the desktop. I may have inadvertently caused this problem when changing various settings by using the FreshUI tweak program. (Not a fault of the program.)     - wireless on ME Hi, I was having trouble with my USB wireless adapter but just found the culprit with the help of Trend net tech support. THe wireless program was showing my network at 100% signal. But would not let me connect to the internet. They suggested I disable my ZOnealarm and AVG free edition and sure enough, I was able to open Internet explorer pages and even type this post. I ENABLED the AVG virus and all good. SO I think the culprit was my firewall (ZA).... So, I am uncomfortable having my firewall disabled. Can anyone recommend a free firewall that is user freindly and perhaps would not interfere with the wireless connection.     - monitor or ME problem Hi, I just plugged into my ME unit a Dell monitor that is 4 years old. Monitor is in excellant condition. But, the desktop looks weird in the sence that it is concaveish (just like the shape of these parenthesis). and the icons are smaler. If the settings are at the default settings, I dont like them.     - Can't use Windows Update after ME reinstall I used my recovery CD to do a fresh reinstall of windows ME. I went to windows update and it said I had to upgrade IE as a critical update first. If she then clicks on View Slideshow, the same photo, but larger, will (usually) appear. If she clicks on the right-pointing arrow (to the right of Play), photo 2 appears. Click on the same arrow again, and nothing happens - no photo 3. Clicking on the left-pointing arrow does NOT take her back to photo 1 - she's hung up at photo 2. And sometimes, when she goes to the above link, that smaller photo of the kitten does not appear. When she gets hung up at photo 2, we recover by closing that browser (IE) window, returning to the email that originally provided the above link, and clicking on the link again.     - Smitfraud, etc. Hope this gets thru.......but just finished trying to clean up my neighbour's computer after his 20 year old was home for the weekend and left him with Zlob and Smitfraud and a gazillion other things. Do I rightly recall that someone on here said I could not get into Safe Mode with a SATA Drive??? Because I couldn't get into it on his and noticed the SATA stuff. I still think (in my spare time) that I am going to write a Dummy Book for Computer Dummies......a really basic thing which I could call "OK, Now you Have a New Computer.....What's Next". Neighbour didn't know that he had to a) update Spybot; and b) actually scan with it. He had some 24,000 items to Immunize. The scan was horrifying!! I set him up with Avast and Zone Alarm a couple of weeks ago, but still can't figure out how on earth Smitfraud (Antivirgear) got on there. Suspect Son #1 might have used a CD from University on it. He is INFESTED!!!!! So needless to say, I have now sent him over to Willy the Wonder Tech because a) he is the best, and b) they have used him before. I am not touching the registry entries. Bleeping Computer has the Smitfraud tool in case anyone needs it, but I couldn't get into Safe Mode to use it. His computer is a Dell and I don't know what Willy did with mine, but I have a devil of a time getting into it here. F8 doesn't work. Think it is F8 + Enter. Must ask him. Now.....back to the damned dentist tomorrow (2 root canals later) and get about 2 hours worth of work done. Then the bridge next week. I am beginning to hate dentists!!     - IEv6 slowdown Greetings, I've noticed a great slowdown of broadband speed when using IEv6. (broadband normally 785kbps IEv6 reduced to 31.7kbps) If I use FireFoxv2 speed is normal.. (785kbps) I've AV checked IEv6 nothing found.. Did a spyware/adware check also nothing found. Did a repair of IEv6 from ME nothing changed. Did a full Registry scan nothing found.     - Mouse/cursor is not communicating in ME Hi, all of a sudden, I turned on the pc and the screen looked different. It has the same look as when you go into safe mode. big pixels and icons. Also, for some reason, the mouse doesnt do anything. I tried to do everything by just using the keyboard but the fact remains that the cursor and mouse lost contact with my ME pc. can you give me some trouble shooting tips. I have restarted endless times and nothing helps. Like I said, the whole icons and look resemble as when you go into safe mode. ALSO, what can I do to "X" out of a page by using the keyboard in case a fix to this problem takes longer for me to get, thank you One more thing. I see the a little "hand" on one of the icons on the desk top and it is stuck on one of my programs.     - Adaware problem,,,, again Hello to all,, Been a while,,, I have flipping well forgotton how to fix/repair/make-work the stupid adaware program. I keep forgetting to come in here and ask;; It is now showing 45 days out of date, (due to everytime I try to update, it does the "5% error thing". ) and then I go off and do something else... I have Asquared, and Spybot, and SpyBlaster and etc.... and now,, I really wonder if flipping adaware is worth all the hassle? I run the others like I normally would,, and havent had a problem... but,,, still have a soft-spot for adaware. Is this whole thing to do with adaware forcing people to update the whole thing?     - Help: Getting Files Off My WindowsMe PC I probably have the worst luck of anyone in history when it comes to anyhting associated with Microsoft. My first two computers when down taking everything with them. My secondary harddrives, my Jazz drives, my Zip drives, my other apps for transferring data between systems have all failed me when I needed them. I am now on my third internet pc and the warning signs are there. The pc is grossly outdated and I need another. Since my Zip drive no longer works with this pc either, I just picked up a 4.0G Sandisk Cruzer (since no other option is working), and I'm having difficulties getting my system to find and install it. I do not have "Add New Hardware" in my control panel and do not know why. There is an icon on the taskbar, but no other reference on my system to the drive that is plugged into my USB port.     - Ugrading from Windows ME to XP I gave my stepmother an old computer. The computer originally had Windows 98 on it and upgraded it to XP Home addition. She recently passed away and we are disposing of the computer. This computer is actually older than my father's computer which has ME on it. Can I take my operating disks from the the computer that will be disposed of and install them on my Dad's computer which has Windows ME on it? The system was licensed to the old computer. If we can't do that, we probably will switch out the drives, but it will still be easier to upgrade my Dads than doing all the switching. When I upgraded the computer I gave to my mom, I put in a new hard drive. Because I had also replaced the monitor and the printer, we had a miserable time getting XP to be valid. We spent hours with Microsoft on the phone (It was free then). Will have this same problem if I try to upgrade my Dad's computer???     - Hasn't anyone installed a hard drive into multiple computers? I have done this without thinking of something until now and here's the story: I am someone that collects used computers and one thing that I've done is took a Windows Millennium edition containing hard drive out of a Dell and installed it into two other Dell computers and I am thinking of installing it in a Gateway computer. The problem here is that I'm asking myself: how do you remove the recent computer's features, settings and the device drivers information out of the registry?     - need installation disk We've got an hp pavilion 8775c computer that was in the trash. It was full of viruses, so I erased the harddrive (windows me). I installed win98 on it. I then purchased the recovery cds. The computer doesn't have the original sound card (I added a new one) and I added extra memory. The recovery cds (which install windows me) is not recognizing the computer although these cds are for this model. (The mainboard is the original one.) The computer has a sticker for windows me on it with the software key. I'm looking for a copy of an installation disk for windows me (upgrade or new) that I can use to reinstall windows me - or any suggestions on how to get these recovery cds to function.     - Explorer..Shell32.dll Explorer has cause an error in Shell32.dll. Explorer will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restating your computer. This error popped up first time while adding an MP3 file to Winamp 5.1. I clicked close. The mp3 file however got added and played normally. I noticed that Modem and Soundcard icons have dissppeared from the Quick Launch bar leaving Volume icon only. But both of them remained active. Restarting the computer made no change. I soon found out other players ( Total Recorder, Cooledit) are acting similarly. Scanreg... reports no error in registry. Reinstalled the windows and the players and still the same position.     - Off topic to this NG Scanning problems, old system, Dell 4100, ME, IE6 SP1. 3rd party issue with Visioneer 6100, USB connected with Paperport 6.1software. Problem just started with no changes to the system. Scans do not work in black/white mode from TWAIN tool dialog box. Grayscale & color is OK, meaning scanning a B/W article in the color or grayscale mode scans OK, but not in the B/W mode. Been using the system for 7 yrs without problems.     - Help: I Can Only Load Pages For Several Minutes My old Compaq pc with WindowsME only allows me to surf the internet for several minutes. It will then completely stop loading pages and in order to temporarily fix the problem I have to reboot. At first I thought it was Verizon(which had gone down a couple of days ago), but has hoping someone can give me advice on what to check and do next if it is my system itself. Sometimes I can't even save an image because the system "thinks" there is not enough room on my drive even though it is a 4g that has 6-700mb free. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.     - Floppy disk, do I need it? I'm strongly considering a new desktop computer and notice that many (most?) of them no longer include a slot for floppy disks. I feel like I'd be losing something that might be necessary, even though I very rarely use that feature any longer. I believe there are accessory floppy disk readers/writers available, but are they worth the trouble and expense? What will I lose if I have no floppy disk ability at all?
