I realize that there have been a few threads about this, but I just =
found this newsgroup last nite after being frustrated with my PC running =
ME.
For the last several days, the PC would restart at random times for no =
reason and I could not figure it out.

Last nite I found some threads and did delete a folder entitled: =
C:\windows\system\KB891711 which had 2 files in it.

So far today the machine has not restarted, but it did freeze up once =
and we had to restart it.

I did a search and see there is a file, 891711UN in the =
Windows\INF\QFE\WINME file.
Is this file part of the whole issue? Is it safe to delete it?

Thanks,

Mike

My advice would be not to start deleting random files but instead to
either uninstall 891711 using Add/Remove Programs where it appears as
"Windows Millennium Edition KB891711 Update" or perhaps better to prevent
the KB891711 service being launched each time you boot your PC by
unchecking the KB891711 entry in MSConfig | Startup (Accessed using Start
| Run and entering MSConfig in the box and clicking OK). Alternatively
you could use system restore to roll your system back to the state it was
in before you installed the 891711 hotfix.

Out of curiosity what model video card or chip are you using on the box
having problems and what version driver is it using? This information can
be found using System Properties | Device Manager.

Hi

Thanks. =20
I just unchecked the KB891711 in the start up.

The video card is a Pine, Model No.: PV - S03A - BR

It was replaced a couple of years back as I recall and has worked well =
until the other day.
