Hello you all.

I'm wondering (and if anyone knows.....) why every time I'm downloading some
music I'm getting so much malaware and b.s. in my PC.
I know how to clean it up afterwards but I'd like to be able to block it
before it even slides in.
No matter how hard I try it's still finding a way in: buy why on Earth
should I avoid browsing the music downloads?

Sorry about this, but I've spent the last 2 hours cleaning up this machine
after some innocent search and download of some great music from the
70'.....

Now this is an area I am quite familiar with, grin!! You don't say what you
are using to download mp3's......but it sure isn't the one I use. I have
NEVER once receive malware or b.s. using WinMX in some 3 or 4 years. I
occasionally use Limewire, but prefer WinMX.

I think I can safely assume you are using Kazaa? If so, get rid of it. It
is full of all the cr*p you are saying you get. Or one of the other malware
infested P2P programs, I might add. Not sure of all the names, but the
words *mule and donkey* come to mind. I have never even looked at any of
them.

If you want good information on these programs, find one of the mp3 news
groups and ask there. But my money is on Kazaa!! A program that should be
banned!!

Btw.....just how many folders do you allow this program to download to? I
hope you are not opening up more than one. And do you use Spybot or AdAware
or SpywareBlaster? If not, then start. I usually virus-check any downloads
from Limewire, but have never had a problem with WinMX.

Cheers.....Heather

That would be my way too if the music I'm looking for is for sale but it is
not, so I searched specifically for it and downloaded that only = 12 songs.
It's so unfair that a great service as the Internet could be has been ruined
by some ruthless idiots.

Hi Heather, I'm top posting since you did that too but I'm sure someone here
won't like it.....
Anyway, as I wrote to Alias, I was not using a specific downloading program
because I was looking for some very rare songs that are not for sale
anymore.
I searched for them through AltaVista, Google and MSN: I found some of them
( a total of 12) here and there, I just downloaded the .mp3 files only (save
target as.....), some of them were in the format .zip, I unzipped them,
bought the password (50 eurocents) and played them all with Winamp (v5.03),
smooth, no problems at all till then.
When I restarted my machine this morning, I had all sort of sh*t in it, my
homepage had been hijacked, my hard disc space was fading away, pop ups of
all kinds kept automatically opening till I managed to switch off the PC
cutting off the power.
I used all the programs you mentioned to clean that mess and after a couple
of wasted hours I'm asking myself: why?
Why are those as*holes doing that? What comes in their pockets?
They are just ruining something useful and precious as the Internet can be.
Could it be they are just jealous?

Correction.......I was wrong in naming *donkey or mule* as being a bit

Hi Stefano......

Top posting is preferred in the MS news groups, so no problem.

I have found some old songs that I thought were no longer in existence using
the 2 programs I mentioned. Early 50's ones. It has taken me a long time
to amass the ones that are no longer available and I did most of it on
dialup....aarrgghh!!

There are a lot of thoughtless, malicious, nasty people out there who do try
and ruin it for others. I was just remembering the other day when we all
used to use our real email addresses on news groups.....that went the way of
the Dodo once the spammers starting using 'bots to gather them up.

If you didn't get all that you were looking for, perhaps I could take a look
on one of those two programs for you. But it all depends on who is also
using them at the same time. I remember trying to find one for Noel, but it
wasn't available.

Let me know and I will take a look. But if they are classical, you will
have to be very specific.....not in my sphere of musical knowledge, grin.

Cheers......Heather (Canada)

Heather, you are really surprising me, you are such a darling, I thought
there were none left!
Anyway, I found all but one of the songs I was looking for.
I'm missing VIA DEL CAMPO (~1969), the singer is FABRIZIO DE ANDRE', from
Genova - Italy.
There are many broken links/empty downloads and I'd be so happy if have a
good one in your programs.
Please let me know.
Bye for now!

Why, thank you, Stefano!! What a lovely compliment. I just did a search in
WinMX and found 32 people who have that song and am downloading it now. I
picked a 128 bitrate one only because it is smaller and I can email it to
you. It is 2.7 meg.

Btw.....if you want the name of the program, it is free and it is called
WinMX.

If I take the NOSPAM out of the address below, will it reach you??

One can get it from their website, grin. I have used WinMX exclusively for
3 or 4 years and I have never had any problems and they tell you on the
website that there is NO spyware.....

I lurked on the WinMX news group for a while and did learn some stuff, but
like a lot of ng's, they have their rude types. So if you want to know
anything, write me directly......you just have to figure out how, grin. But
I do have Hotmail working properly again.....sort of.

http://www.winmx.com

Happy song downloading.......and btw, if you show NO songs for sharing, you
will get disconnected, either manually or by software programs. None of
these P2P program users like *leeches*.....so my best advice is that you rip
a few of your own CD's into the Sharing Folder. Learned that one on the ng.

Cheers.....Heather

: One can get it from their website, grin. I have used WinMX exclusively
for
: 3 or 4 years and I have never had any problems and they tell you on the
: website that there is NO spyware.....
:
: I lurked on the WinMX news group for a while and did learn some stuff, but
: like a lot of ng's, they have their rude types. So if you want to know
: anything, write me directly......you just have to figure out how, grin.
But
: I do have Hotmail working properly again.....sort of.
:
:
: Happy song downloading.......and btw, if you show NO songs for sharing,
you
: will get disconnected, either manually or by software programs. None of
: these P2P program users like *leeches*.....so my best advice is that you
rip
: a few of your own CD's into the Sharing Folder. Learned that one on the
ng.
:
: Cheers.....Heather

I don't know how to rip a CD. When you say that, I assume you mean change
the tracks to MP3s. I notice that on Windows Media there is a "rip" feature
but I have never tried it.

Thanks again.
